   My friends and I visited this place in April 2019, and it was a nice morning out. We left the car and took a quick ferry to the foot of the mountain. The 999 steps up to the top of the mountain was quite a challenge for someone who isn't a regular walker or hiker, but the walk was worth the effort. The scenery was beautiful, the weather in April is just right: cool, not humid, a bit of sun and clear skies. Right at the top, there is a village and visitors are welcome to walk around the place, view the local houses and village roads and appreciate the architecture. The houses are the traditional wooden village houses and chickens roam freely - I really found it quite refreshing to the concrete jungle that I live in! We paid for the villagers to cook a meal for us - we had two dishes, pork knuckle and vegetables - but it tasted good. The pork knuckle was smoked in the traditional local style and the savory, smoky taste went well with the ginger, spring onions and leeks. We walked around the mountain and saw where the scholars hid the books (bamboo scrolls in those days) and other scenic spots. I would recommend it to those who enjoy a mild hike/walk and would like to try some home-cooked local food. See more..
