This tourist spot was quite far away from Jinghong and was over 2 hours' car-driven time from the city centre. Nonetheless it was really worthwhile in visiting this spot as you could find many high trees, some over 50-meters high, and tropical plants inside the area. If you was brave enough and not afraid of heights, you should pay an additional charge to climb up the trees and walk across the suspension bridge which was used by the forest-staff in the past in doing observation checks on the plantations around. We took more than one and half an hour to drive from Anantara resort hotel in Menglun to skytree rainforest in Mengla. On the way to skytree Mengla, we drove to a small village called Mandan. It is worth to visit the small village as well as hike in skytree rainforest. The air corridor is so high almost 20 meters height and the skytree average 70-80 meters. When you walk on this corridor, you find the nature is so close to your heart. You can even smell the tropical air everywhere and help you get rid of city's noise. See more..

There were tourist buses in the entry. So please be aware that this remote villige may not be so quiet as you expected. Nevertheless, if you walk a bit further away from the crowd, it is a special place to be. Why I say it is the strasbourg in China? Because the same as strasboug, Mengjinglai has also changed hands between China and the neighbouring countries. At the edge of the villige, one can see the border river floating quietly, and the otherside is already Burma. What interesting is the bilingual introduction of culture and history. it is also not far from the official gate between Burma and China. Actually this is not a traditional Chinese buddhist temple, because the style is Thai. It was rebuilt and restored one year ago, therefore now is in a perfect shape. It is really gorgeous! And after seeing Manting Park, you totally don't expect to see such a building in a corner of the park. I was marveled by this structure and its beauty. Gold everywhere and full of statues and color. If access the ground floor, you will also be able to see a buddha built by bamboo. If you are curious about the history and other aspects of this temple, feel free to ask some buddhist monk. This park is about an hour south of Xishuangbanna. We were able to hire a driver for 200RMB to take us their and back. At the park they have tour guides to tell you about what you will see (30RMB), however, you will need a translator to understand them (you have to bring your own). The entrance fee for the park is 160RMB for adults and 80 RMB for kids. The trail itself is a nice walk. The forest is beautiful, the living situations are interesting, the walk in the trees is fun (free), the variety show in the middle is entertaining, and the huge swing was thrilling (20RMB). There is plenty to do without the translator, but if you can have a translator it would a lot more interesting. This was one of the most fun days on our trip to Banna. We went there for the sky tree. Very nice but so expensive. 198¥ for entry including boat to there. ONLY 1 attraction included. So be careful. You can choose between sky rode walk or glass bridge. If you want to do both, well you have to pocket out 120¥ more. We did inside the tree activities: 200¥ more for barely 20 min of action, but followed by a 40 min trek back to main base. Large garden with different sections, lots of exotic plants and trees, you can spend a whole afternoon or morning there, has a grassy area to sit on, quite popular with tourist groups, electric buggy available to take you around the park if you want, but costs 40 rmb, in spite of many tourists there are still lots of quiet areas to enjoy, not crowded.. Beautiful setting for a market. There are plenty of things to see, and do. At the top, by the temple its streets and stalls but as you go down, behind the temple and closer to the river the square opens out into food places on the river side, a stage with local perfomances. The items for sale can certainly be found elsewhere but most of the fun is wandering around, taking photos and finding great things to eat. The night market is one of the best I've ever been to. So many different stalls to buy a lot of local handicraft goods, not just tourist souvenirs. For unique gifts or buys, you need to come here. The food is also pretty good, reasonably priced for a tourist destination. Make sure to just look for the cleanest stall because some are not very hygienic. I didn't get sick eating three nights in a row here, which is very surprising given night market food in general. This is a great photoshoot spot with a lot of amazing sights. You'll also see a lot of people wearing the local clothing for photoshoots. Just don't get scammed, make sure to look at reviews online as there is a lot of people trying to sell you. See more..

On the edge of the conurbation is a new temple complex. Take the electric car to the summit. Here you can view the outside of a brand new, super shiny temple. The view is from a distance for now as this place won't be completed until later this year. Still impressive though. Also at the summit is a viewing platform made of glass. Slippers on and you can walk on over it to snap some pix of the view downhill towards a big golden Buddha. The car takes you down to the Buddha so you can take more pix. Then one more trip to see the working heart of the temple before driving to the base for the water splashing demo and the peacock show. A great afternoon out. See more..

The ManChunMan Temple (曼春滿佛寺) is located inside the Xishuangbanna Dai Cultural Garden (see separate review). Reputedly the first temple set up by the southern Buddhists in this region more than 1400 years ago. Current buildings mostly rebuilt in the '70s after devastation by in the Cultural Revolution. Very well respected and with international followers in annual Buddhist events, it has received credentials and gifts from numerous Dai royal houses and Buddhist institutions. Typical Dai style in a relatively small area. Many photogenic spots and surprisingly few visitors on the day of our visit. This pagoda as such is not very interesting for non-buddhist who has seen religious sites before. It is very old (800 years or so). The avtual color of this white pagoda is more gray, and it was a lot smaller than I expected based on some photos I had seen. This place is beautiful as far as tourist sites go. It’s a very Chinese style forest which means there isn’t a real trail or dirt path to be found. We came at a peak season time which I would never do again. It was so stressful with all the pushing and shoving and lines and etc. If you go I recommend asking a Chinese friend to help you pay for tickets online that are a package deal. We spent way too much paying alacarte. There’s some decent food inside at decent prices so that was a plus. Overall I would go again with friends who hadn’t gone before. See more..

Locals come here with their children to use the paddle boats or large inflatables balls to cruise this modest lake. Elders sit and play chess.
