   Place exceeded expectations and have become a nice surprise, especially it’s located in relatively small, not tourist-beloved town. Not full building but only facades kept from beginning of last century, and these are really asking for some restoration work, but it gives a real history feeling. I was told street built by overseas returnees in early 1910-1920, haven’t done research on it though. Street is full of shops, which are rather daily shops then selling usual tourist crap, so you can feel it’s pretty local and part of real town life. See more..

   Stone Park is located inside Tongguling. Here you see many big rocks and beautiful scenery of the sea. There's a huge rock that you can climb up to get a wonderful view, but you'll be stepping on smaller, uneven rocks to get up there and there's a rope for you to hold onto. It looks scary but I made it.....You really need good shoes! This place hasn't really been developed yet so no entrance fee and the road is very uneven to drive on so a SUV is better . No decent parking as well, so just park where ever.... There's also a Thai temple nearby. Heard that whatever you pray will become true. We didn't go in as it was raining so I just took a few pictures. See more..

   I think it's a must see if you're in Wenchang. I don't know if this place ever gets busy but when I was there it was just about empty. Feel free to walk around and enjoy the peacefulness.    Until my visit, I hadn’t known that part of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's , Quangzhou’s favourite son, is likely due to his third wife, Soong Ching-ling (1893-1981) (aka, Madame Sun Yat-sen). She was born into a prominent Chinese family, and was partly educated in the USA. Under her English name, Rosamonde Chung-ling Soong. At the height of her political career, from 1959 to 1075, she was the 2nd Vice-Chairperson of the People's Republic of China. A few days before her death, at the age of 88, Soong Ching-ling was apponted Honorary Chairwoman of the People's Republic of China. I think it is not so much the ancestral home of itself which is significant, but rather is acts as a memorial to the significant contribution of Soong Ching-ling and her family to present day China.    A nice interesting place to visit where you see the life history of this family, how clever they were, their achievement and their success. Have many precious photos with both Chinese and English descriptions. In the garden, you'll see the grave where the mother was buried and different type of trees planted. Admission fee was RMB15 which I found reasonable. Years ago the admission fee was higher than this. See more..

   For about 7 rmb you can take a public mini bus to this location. Not much to see or do there. But being amongst the coconut palm trees is nice. The local people are kind and eager to talk to any foreigners. Fresh coconut juice for 5 rmb is very refreshing and delicious. They could make this place a real tourist destination but I don't see that happening, too bad. See more..

    The mangrove is well maintained. It is clean - as far as a mangrove can be. After all, it's still a swamp, but they do a good job keeping litter away. The area itself starts with a wooden bridge which you can ride on and if you keep going, it turns into a concrete then dirt track which is for walking only. There was literally not a soul there when we visited - so it could have been a beautiful and slightly adventurous nature walk. However, we brought our 2 year old along and this place is not suitable for youngsters. Wet, with a relatively narrow walking track and large pockets of water on either side - this is not where you want to bring a curious and wild-running toddler. If you are an adventurer looking for a bit of easy exercise, a lovely walk and spending time in a shady foresty area, this place definitely fits the bill. See more..

    It's 70 miles form wenchang so we decide to get a taxi. Not much to see you catwalk down the old street to the harbour which is a thriving fishing harbour and very smelly. On the way you can stop for the chance to eat horse shoe crab. Horse shoe crabs are not crabs at all but a living fossil being one of the oldest life forms on this planet. The street must have looked great in its heyday but now is in pretty poor repair. I wonder whether they will repair it or will it be another case of rebuilding. See more..
