   It is a protected area comprising the Gaoligong Mountains and the nearby Nu Jiang Reserve in the western Yunnan Province of China, near the international boundary of Burma. also a class Protected Area of World Wildlife Fund, and World Biosphere Reserve and a part of World Heritage Site of UNESCO.    We loved this quiet ancient town. Free village to roam around for a half day. Although the main "mansion" is no longer open for tours you can walk around the walled gate and see inside to the courtyards. The wall is only about 4 feet tall. Around he back of this mansion you can see a cool red temple across the river. We did not have time to go tour it but it looked interesting. The residents of the town were all very friendly and willing to talk if you know some Mandrin. We were invited into a courtyard to chat with a family opening up a hotel there. If I ever find myself back in Tengchong I will definitely return and stay at a hotel in this area!! See more..

   This attraction is free but you can no longer enter to tour. Our driver called some people in the town and they informed us about this change. It is still nice to walk around and you can see quite a lot. Very well preserved for an ancient mansion in China. It is also at the beginning of the Qiluo Ancient Town which is an amazing place to walk around if you like architecture and friendly people. See more..

   Gaoligong Nature Reserve at Baihualing is a sleepy place surrounded by coffee plantations and slash and burn sections within the boundary forest. Still there are nice areas of forest. It rains a lot during June, July and August so not the best time to visit. We walked to a waterfall and up a road toward the Burma border. The famed Gibbons are not possible to see as a tourist because that requires a more in-depth trek to a permit only area. Bird Watching is great and we saw about 30 different birds in a two hour walk - before the rain hit. The area is full of WWII memorabilia and one old farmer has an odd collection of objects he displays in his home. Good to spend at least 3 days there. See more..

   This is a scenic trial walk, get to see the natural hot springs and forest. One of my favourite tourist attraction in tingchong Before you walk inside, there alot of aunti and granny tried to sell you eggs (¥5 for 4 eggs) because at the end of the trail walk. There is a spot where you use the natural hot steam to steam your eggs. If you going to support them rather buy from the old granny especially the one with grey hairs, because ¥5 might be nothing to us but it definately meant lot more for them. See more..

   Don't come expecting a true ancient village or small town that is untouched. The long arm of commercial tourism has reached here, as is the case in most parts of China. If you've been to the "old town" in Lijiang or Pingyao (in Shanxi,) you will be better prepared for what you will find here. There are, however, many peaceful vistas and interesting historical sights, many from WW 2. The rape flowers/weeds were also in full bloom (late February.) They have had four years of drought in much of Yunnan, so they are not tall, but are still rather pretty. Should mention that the famous library was closed for painting and minor repairs the day we were there. Of course plenty of jade and trinkets were for sale beside the streets. Only buy the jade if you know what you are doing. It's possible to spend the night here in a small guest house; lots of choices. You need to speak the language if you opt to do that. See more..

   The main hot spring is about 98 degrees and you can cook eggs with its stream. It cost 5RMB to buy 4 eggs when you enter the scenic spots but 20RMB at the hot spring, so buy as many as you want before climbing to the main spot. The view on the way to the main spot was interesting as well. There were streams everywhere and you can smell sulfur. Many people say it is not a place to go during summer, probably so. It takes 25 minutes to get to the place from the town centre and about two hours to visit this place. And technically speaking, it is not a scenic resort but a scenic spot with a hot spring resort next to it, where you need to pay additional fees to enjoy it. We didn't choose to go to the hot spring resort because we get it in our hotel, but it should be relaxing. Overall, one should definitely go there if they visit Tengchong county, and, the eggs are yummy! (it tastes better than boiling with normal water at home.) See more..

    My husband and I were there in June 2011 as our completeion of 4 years living in China. Situated in Southwest China, Yunnan province, Heshun has over 600 years of history. To name a few - - 'Flying Tiger', 'tea trade routh with Myanmar', not to mention lovely landscape and ancient buildings with strong local characters, the clans etc.. Heshun Library claimed to have a collection of around 80,000 books, built in stone/wood. This little villate stands our top 5 impressive places in China.. Truly Amazing! See more..

    The DaKong mountain is part of the volcano scenic spot along with the XiaoKong mountain. The mountain is not so high and definitely good exercise in the morning after going on the hot balloon. There is a big hole left after the activity of volcano, which you can see after climbing to the top, and this is what the name of the mountain means. You can also choose to ride a house to the top, which cost about 60RMB up or 80RMB round way. See more..

    We spent two days in the park. The park itself is a nice walk, up and down, along a river, next to water sprouts, and nice scenery. It's so nice that we walked the park twice, in opposite routes. We stayed in the park (very expensive but fantastic unit with private hot spring outdoor tub). The park admission is included in the lodging. It was my most relaxing vacation! See more..

    The river gorge is beautifully carved and the volcanic pillars and formations along the river are a special geological sight. Continuing along the river and back to a restaurant area and parking lot at the end of the walk is a lovely way to spend the time in nature that has not been too altered. See more..

    This is a pretty waterfall more or less inside Tengchong, so getting there is quick and easy. The day I was there, no entry fee was required, though there may be in high season. Not sure. You can take a short hike down some steep stair to get closer to the waterfalls and the obligatory photo-ops. Not amazing, but worth 30 minutes or 1 hour max. A couple small pavilions in the area as well. Not crowded when I was there, right after Spring Festival. In summary, this is an easy place to add to a day trip itinerary, but not a destination that would justify coming to Tengchong all by itself. See more..
