  3. 4.5 Shenzhen Metro (282 reviews)
    - Nice Clean Metro
    Public Transportation Systems
    Shenzhen Metro image
The stations are well designed and it has been very quick to get around the city during our stay. We also liked the digital displays and clear instructions on most trains. We had plenty of room to sit on most trains throughout the day. It seems that metro cards and tokens are not being used and we had to use WeChat to use a mini program for the metro. Please note that they will ask for water bottles to be removed at many stations for inspection. We came into Shenzhen by train from Guangzhou and expected to get a 3 day pass or a card but they were not available. We ended going through a queue and stood near the x-ray machines setting up the mini program for ourselves. This only charges for each ride and the QR code must be scanned when entering and leaving metro areas. The QR code attached to this review will allow you to sign up for one prior to a trip to Shenzhen. See more..

    - Great......when it's quiet
    Parks
    Shenzhen Bay Park image
Shenzhen bay park is a wonderful oasis in the middle of a bustling city................providing you do not go there on a weekend or a public holiday. I have done both. During the week, it is a wonderfully attractive waterfront park with the possibility to walk for many kilometres. Ample places to take nice pictures of flowers, trees, birds etc, and well built hills protect you from most of the noise from the nearby roads. However, if you go during the weekend, or even worse on a public holiday, once you have managed to get onto a pathway, be prepared to shuffle at the speed of the crowd! Nightime views of both the city of Shenzhen and distant Hong Kong are wonderful. See more..

OCT Loft Creative Culture Park image
We went here around noon on a Sunday and were disappointed that many of the vendor booths weren't open and some of the shops were closed. After reading reviews it might be better to go here later in the afternoon. We still enjoyed our stay and popped into a cafe for an ice cream milk tea to cool down. Please note that the OCT loft is north of the Qiaocheng East Metro station and the OCT harbour is south. This area is much quieter than the harbour in the early afternoon. See more..

I stayed here over Christmas break when I first moved to SZ and It was a really pretty and was a great place to start my Chinese experience. This area-street is just heaven on earth. As I am an electrical engineer, all my dreams can come true from this street. Every single electrical component is there with all versions and options. I am pretty sure you can make a rocket even without a problem. If you are a normal consumer, also no problem to find all electronics devices there, like mobiles, TVs, Cameras, Charges, cables, .... and many other thousands gadgets. I did not count the mega malls there, min one day can be reserved for this place. One important tip, keep in mind that all Chinese brands are more secure to be genuine. All international brands like Apple and Samsung are more probable to be a copy, so take care. I suggest to buy a Chinese brand instead. See more..

    Kingkey 100 image
I booked the restaurant and notified them a week before going on the 19th of April to celebrate my 21st, when asked how many people the reservation was for I replied with 1 as my family couldn’t come out to meet me due to the pandemic. Upon arriving at meal I was treated by extremely polite staff whom gave me a tour of the 96th floor giving me 360 views of Shenzhen and neighbouring Hong Kong. When arriving in the restaurant they showed me all the food items I could / couldn’t eat due to my allergies. The waiters were all extremely polite and the food was exquisite. The menu was amazing! Lots of fresh seafood caught locally, traditional Chinese hot pot and many more To top the night off, the restaurant had prepared me an amazing home made chocolate mouse and orange cake accompanied with free champagne to celebrate my birthday with. It was easily the best meal I’ve had in China in close to a year and with incredible views of the city aswell, a must go to! See more..

At the 2018 Global Tea Fair held at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre (Futian District), I learned a lot about the many different types of tea. I also got to taste all kinds of tea. Of the teas sampled, I most liked Pu'er Tea (like red or black tea) and flower tea. - Wonderful zoo
Wednesday: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Shenzhen Wild-life Zoo image
The zoo is one of my favorites as it has many varieties of animals, birds, fishes, etc., a showground and an amusement park. It is a large zoo and it takes a good 2-3 hours to walk around leisurely. One could feed the tigers and lions from inside a caged car, to get a close encounter with these wild animals. They are extremely fast in seizing the chicken meat. A must-see in Shenzhen. Go on a sunny day with relatively cool weather; the animals and birds will appear very active and happy. On a hot, cold or rainy day, they will normally hide away. See more..

    - Shekou Ferry to Hong Kong airport: ALLOW 2.5 TO 3 HOURS!!!
    Speciality Museums
    Shekou image
Two days ago, I tried to take the Shekou Ferry to the Hong Kong airport to catch my flight. I arrived at the ferry terminal 2 hrs and 15 minutes before my flight was scheduled to depart, but the ferry operator refused to sell me a ferry ticket! According to the ticket agent, the arilines have a rule that no passengers may board a ferry less than 2.5 hours prior to their flight departure. The ferry brochure says nothing about this, neither in English nor in Chinese. So I joined 3 other travelers in a mad taxi dash from Shekou Port on Shenzhen Port, where we caught a HK taxi to the airport. I missed my flight, and had to take a later one. If you want to take the ferry back to the airport, allow PLENTY of time. See more..
