   The temple is built in great traditional Chinese architecture so there lots to see in terms of architecture. However what makes this place interesting are the rock formation behind the temple. You probably could take at least half a day to wander amongst the formation. The formation are named, in Chinese. So those who understands will enjoy more.    I was brought here by my relatives living in Shantou area. It is a large and nice park frequented by the locals who usually visit with family members. There is a theme park, lakeside garden and zoo. We arrived in the afternoon and already there were many people unlike in my own country where the park is deserted due to the heat and humidity,.    The Queshi Scenic Resort is not far from Shantou center. You can take a public bus there(RMB $2) and alight at the bus stop with the same name. Walk to the right hand side and turn left into the small road leading to the ticket office .If you want to take the cable car up the hill ,I suggest you only buy one way ticket and try to walk down the hill in about 20 minutes.If the visibility is good, you can see the panoramic view of the Shantou city and the river.There is only one restaurant and have not much choice of food, so eat before going there.It's quite a nice place to go in Shantou.    what is excellent over here is the area is quite secluded from hordes of tourist, meaning that one can have lesiurely walk and explore around nooks and corners of the huge complex of the residence with over 500rooms! most with intricate details of window and door frames, courtyards, halls that's influenced by arabeques techniques, chinese, european and much south east asian characteristics. highly recommended before its get commercialized. but the transportation is a bit of a challenge if travel by own.     This is the location of the secret unofficial cultural revolution museum. As it wasn't on any maps it was pretty difficult finding the place, but you can take bus 102 from Shantou and ask for this place instead (Tashan Park) instead.     The Temple of goddess Mazou (LinMounia if you prefer in Chinese) is really magnificent. Take preferably the fast boat to get there (it will be less crowded than the big boat). The pathway from the port to the Temple is nice and clean and the mystery of the progenitors ' spirits is all over the place. As you get on the top of it you see two gods of Buddhism (a red statue on the right and a blue one on the right). At the highest point you can pay your respects to the golden statue of Mazou , the protector of the human souls. If you pay 100 rmb you get a red bag , a flag with a golden dragon, a small quantity of blessed rice and print of the goddess with a wish for prosperity. Enjoy it!     A fairly small temple comprising 2 separate section of beautifully decorated deities. They appears to be fairly new as the figurines are still clean and bright in colors. A normal temple would have been blacken by the burning incense. If temple is your thing, out the Mazu temple turn left and another left onto Waima Road .     Very nice place. Long way to climb but it is worth it. When you see full families with little children climbing all those stairs it gives you the motivation to go to the top (and then a long way down). Beautiful way, mountain, nature, passages between the rocks, beautiful temples. Great to o spend a nice afternoon. It is worth it if you are around.     Ok to be honest the museam was closed as it we were there on Monday. However it is in the old part of the city which is well worth a look. Shantou obviously was big in the early part of the 20th century and you can see street after street of what were in their day fine house and shops. However it appears that unlike other east coast cities shantou has had very little investment. The result is a decaying but strangely quaint old city area. I am not sure what will happen either it will slowly fall down and be cleared for redevelopment or maybe it will get a much needed make over but it will require a lot of work and money.     I visited this location in February 2019. My friend from New York was visiting me and I found the good review on Trip Advisor for this hot spring. In a nutshell, this is not a natural hot spring. The campus is made up of old dilapidated pools with a "spring source" that we were unable to find. The whole facility is run down, dirty, and is not for public use. The facility is really designed for people who want to stay at the "resort". However, I wouldn't advise staying here as the rooms also look dirty and people smoke inside as well. See more..
