-The best! No tourist but absolutely beautiful
Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Lookouts
We have visited various diaolou in Kaiping area. This is the most beautiful dialou. It is worth a visit. There are plenty of photo opportunities !!! If you have a 360 camera, bring it with you. The tallest dialou in here is privately owned. So you will need to pay additional entry fee to get in. There is someone there to explain to u briefly about this place and what to expect in each floors. He will also show you photos that can be taken. Not a lot of tourist. So you can take your time and walk around. Worth every bit. Would come back again. There is a car park for cars. See more..
- 4.5 Longgang Ancient Temple (4 reviews)
-Quiet village with unusual architecture
Thursday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Religious Sites
If you have a free day in Guangzhou, you will not regret, if you spend it in Kaiping. Go around the tower and you will find many interesting angles for your photos. From Guangzhou bus goes for about two hours. Come not to the end station. Ask the driver "Kaiping"! If you do not see the free taxi at the exit of the bus terminal, then go inside the building and ask "Kaiping" !? )) For 300 yuan, I arranged with the driver to inspect the three main places. The trip takes 3-5 hours. Entrance is paid separately, it is inexpensive. See more..
- 4.0 Kaiping Diaolou and Villages (146 reviews)
-Quirky architecture in pretty villages and landscape
Thursday: 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM Spent More than 3 hours Historic Sites
Known locally as the Kaiping Diaolou, these unique, multi-story watchtowers were used as fortifications in the 17th century. Now a world UNESCO Heritage site, they are some of the most fascinating historical and architectural artifacts in China. See more..
- 4.0 Watchtower Group of Zili Village (71 reviews)
-Great day trip from Kaiping, worth the visit
Architectural Buildings
The site is reachable by bus 617 from Kaiping city centre (one every 20 mins or so), the journey is about 40 mins. Taxi will cost you around 65yuan. We bought the combo admission costing 150yuan per person, it gave us access to Zili village and the nearly Li Yuan. Shuttle bus between the sites was included in the price of the ticket (check the bus timetable at the entrance). Zili village was a fascinating place to visit, full of culture and history. We had a great time exploring the different towers. The villagers were friendly and welcoming. Many of the smaller buildings offered lunches (around 20-30 yuan per dish), overlooking the lotus pond. We'd have loved to eaten there but unfortunately we had a tight schedule and had to catch the shuttle to Li Yuan. See more..
- 4.0 Kaiping Garden (51 reviews)
-Do visit as part of Kaiping Diaolous trip ...
Thursday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Architectural Buildings
This place has quite a history and some of the representative watch towers of the region. However, strangely, it is not part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nonetheless, definitely should be part of the visit to the area. See more..
- 4.0 Ma-Xianglong Towers Group (44 reviews)
-A lovely stroll away from tour groups.
Architectural Buildings
This small cluster of dialou is a bit off the main circuit, so you will need to have your own transport to get here. The upside, though, is a welcome break from tour groups. There are some fruit orchards and gardens in the spaces between each diaolou, and makes for a pleasant walk. Allow yourself about 2 hours to wander around and explore. See more..
- 4.0 Jiangmen Zili Village Watch Tower (37 reviews)
-More authentic than many bigger villages.
Thursday: 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM Historic Sites
This smaller cluster of diaolou sees less visitors than many other clusters located in bigger (and more modern villages. The end result? Less commercialization, less touts, less vendors of tacky souvenirs. The entrance ticket is reasonable at 80RMB, and it is worth climbing up the diaolou open for public viewing for some nice views. Allow yourself a couple of hours for just the diaolou, more if stopping in the village for lunch. See more..
- 4.0 Yinglong Lou (4 reviews)
-Age makes this watchtower worth visiting
Points of Interest & Landmarks
This place is off the beaten track and not included in the multi site ticket you can buy from Zili Village or the Gardens. It is worth seeing, however, due to its age if you are interested in historic buildings. The main part of the building dates from the Ming dynasty. The darker coloured top floor is twentieth century. This makes it a great deal older than many other watchtowers you will come across in Kaiping. You cannot enter the building so can only enjoy the view from outside. It's towards the back of the Yinglong village. You can take bus 13 or 4 to get here. We took a taxi to the village and a bus back. You might struggle though as many taxi drivers don't seem to know where it is. My husband speaks Chinese so we were ok. When we arrived there were no signs and you had to meander your way through the village to get to it. Only 1 bus tour group was there, no other tourists. Locals selling food stuffs on stalls around the tower. Public toilet at back of village is truly hideous and avoid unless totally necessary. Due to the difficulty getting here, lack of facilities and the fact you can't go inside, this place is only really for history buffs or culture vultures. See more..
- 3.5 Chikan European Style Street (64 reviews)
-Chikan Clans
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Chikan was the center of things in terms of economy in kaiping all the way up until the communists’ takeover. Now, the center of commerce is in downtown Kaiping. Being a vibrant economy for such a long time, Chikan has many treasures. The architecture was built in a style unique to Chikan. Overseas Kaiping people and Tai Shan people came back with hard-earned money and built this town with strong European influence. The town has a very special story. The two main clans in Chikan are the Guan(Kwan) or Situ (Seto) clans. They compete in everything from who has the biggest library to who is better-off. The rivalry of these two clans contributed the first library in Kaiping, an imported clock tower from Germany and the US and so on..... See more..
- 3.0 Chikan Movie Town (25 reviews)
-Chikan Old Town
Thursday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Amusement & Theme Parks
Chikan is located at the center of Kaiping City of Guangdong Province, about 12 kilometers away from Kaiping. Lying on the northern bank of Tanjiang River, Chikan is featured with western buildings, on the southern bank is the beautiful countryside. Chikan is the notable homeland of overseas Chinese so that the constructions blended the western and eastern styles. Wandering around the town is like stepping back to the life of 1980s. The watchtowers, Situ’s library (it was built by the Situ family, so it was named “Situ’s library”), the arcade complex are more than a unique. See more..

-Historical
Thursday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Architectural Buildings
Well, yes that is not one of the nice village sides. Here we are looking on some history from the war against the Japanese (2WW). According the told story 7 Chinese Men made a last stand in that tower besieged by Japanese. After 7 days and 7 nights they ran out of ammo and we’re finally taken, brutally killed, chopped in pieces and thrown n t he river... The fighting marks are still very visible on the walls. There is a very nice lookout from the top of the tower. Due to it is part of the full ticket we came to here and I do not regret it (it is anyways in the way back to Kaiping. I do recommend it. - 3.0 Kai Yuan Ta - The Sealed Pogoda (1 review)
-开元塔 Kai Yuan Ta
Historic Sites
Kai Yuan Tai was a Chinese tower built on the hill top facing the river. It was built around the Qing dynasty. Ancient China followed an examination practice to select people to the office from the mass. There had been no one from Kai Ping topped the examination so far. One of the top official assigned by the emperor to Kai Ping would like to encourage locals to work hard for the exam and attend good result, he proposed to build a tower to signify this. This tower was later named Kai Yuan Ta 开元塔. It was build atop a hill over seeing a river running from Chang Chang to San Bu. In the old days, Chang Cheng was the capital of Kai Ping. People going for examination would either walk through the hill slope or taking ship passing through the hill where Kai Yuan Ta situated. They were leaving their home town on passing through this milestone. This Ta was to wish them good luck and welcome back home with a good result. Kai Yuan means the first one to achieve something. That is the main objective of building this tower. See more..
