    Duoyishu image
Worth to see!! We were there in December - the rice fields were full of water - the sunrise was mirrored in the water. Must be very nice as well in other period. Enough space to see the sunrise (but this might have been caused by the Covid year). See more..

Zhu's Family Garden (Zhu Jia Huayuan) image
A large garden of a wealthy merchant family. This one had a lot of appeal and enjoyed walking in there with my guide, he provided a lot of insight into this garden. A hotel is also inside here, but no real amenities for the hotel other than the beauty of the garden and surroundings. Worth the visit and to take photos. See more..

Yuanyang Rice Terraces are a Hani ethnic minority’s masterpiece of ingenuity. In unique shapes and sizes with more than thousand years of history and 1000 and 2000 metres above sea level, they are a mosiac of colourful and breathtaking landscape of natural beauty. A UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage site, the 3 Must-See scenic areas are Duoyishu at sunrise, Bada in the day and Laohuzui (the Tiger Mouth) at sunset. For a vintage point of the magnificent view of shimmering gold, silver, black, brown and green, a 2-hour lead time and a camera tripod are important! See more..

  6. 4.5 Tuan Hill, Honghe (28 reviews)
    - Ancient Town - worthwhile a visit!
    Thursday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Mountains
    Tuan Hill, Honghe image
The little Ancient town, Tuan Shan, is definitely worth of a visit. Little yellow minivan / busses run from opposite the KFC near the Linann Hotel. They charge 5 RMB pp (Aug 15) and drive you all the way to the parking of Mission Hill (I.e) an other name for the place. The journey is about 13 km and the ride takes about 30 min. On the return journey it appears that the little busses seem to depart on the hour and half hour. The place has a number of English signs explaining the buildings. Entrance fee was 50 RMB pp and 25 RMB for students. We spent a few hours strolling through the village's old narrow streets and buildings. See more..
  7. 4.5 Mengpin Terrace (11 reviews)
    - Spectacular viewpoint
Thursday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Geologic Formations
    Mengpin Terrace image
I visited Mengpin at sunset and the scenery was every bit as dramatic as I imagined. As we were there in the winter the rice terraces were flooded and they shone silver as the sun set, giving some great almost monochrome photos. Unfortunately, the cloud was a little too heavy that day for the really spectacular colours you see on the postcards, but it was still well worth the trip. There is a good free viewpoint of this area if you don't want to pay 30 RMB to got to the official observation deck - you can save the money for Duoyishu in the morning. See more..

People come from surrounding towns to buy and sell during the Sunday morning market. Makes for a colorful scene. Only lasts until about noon. The people here are mostly Hani, with some Yi. Bright ethnic clothes and friendly smiles. I hired a taxi, but there are probably shared vans 面包车 that you can take to get here from Xinjie Town as well. See more..
  9. 4.5 Alu Cave (6 reviews)
    - 跟随徐霞客的脚步
    Thursday: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM Caverns & Caves
    Alu Cave image
See more..

A nice breeze picks up each evening, coming across the lake and the views of the mountains glow with the setting sun. Dragon Tree Dam image
This place is also known as "Longshuba". The tours for visitors don't usually cover the trip to there. We hired a small mini-van and the road was muddy and narrow, so it was a really rough ride. I kept on wondering even if we could get there, whether or not we could make it back. The purpose of going there was to see sunset, and the road condition left us feeling we should wait until it was all the way dark in order to head back. Our driver was excellent. He was a Hani grew up in that area. He not only took us there, but walked with us and guided us down. See more..

  17. 4.5 Chenzi Village (2 reviews)
    - Idyllic earthen village
Thursday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Historic Sites
    Chenzi Village image
Chengzi Village is an idyllic rural village built on a hill overlooking lush farmland with mountains in the background. The mainly earthen houses are packed closely together and a distinctive feature is that each roof also functions as a courtyard where grain is processed, fowl kept and other rural activities are conducted. Narrow dirt and stone passageways wind around the hill like a maze, linking the homes and eventually leading to the top where a temple stands. Life appears to be simple and centered around farming and although there were plenty of lively children and older folk, there seems to be less young adults, who have probably decided to work in the cities. There is a serene sense of timelessness as villagers and their animals go about their work in the fields and wisps of cooking smoke hoover over the rooftops. Although the folk here do not seem to be short on food, it might be nice to bring some school material or small toys for the children there. Lovely village. See more..

Thursday: 7:00 AM - 6:30 PM Historic Sites • Religious Sites
    Jianshui Confucius Temple image
At the main entrance there is a huge lake and at the end of the lake is the temple. My friends tell me that it used to be a school and there are still reminantes of the tokens boards that the sturdents used to show that they were in attendance. Out the back there is like a mini activities area for kids to do different things (cost involved). That band was good, we could hear them tuning up and sat and listened to them for a while. At the end you are invited into the temple to pray and donate. See more..

It is considered one of the 10 most beautiful bridges in China. The setting is beautiful and I had a clear day to see it and walk across. The cave is split into two - one high and dry, the other low and wet. The higher cave is made up of three storey pavilion and a tree fit inside. Plank walkways link up, the Lu River runs through the lower cave for about 8 km and you can tour the cave in boat. There were four of us who went through the Lao Cai side customs point in about 5 mins. We walked across the bridge and into the Hekou side. I was sweating a lot as I was carrying three backpacks as after Yunnan we were going to Tibet so we had loads of cold clothes. As we walked in the customs officer asked if I was sick so I had to stand on a spot on the floor as she took my temp with a camera. After that all good, bags got x-rayed and then we walked out onto the street in China. It couldn't have been easier. See more..
