   - Caohai Marsh is an excellent place for Bird-watching

   Caohai has wild Cormorants, Ruddy Shelducks, Purple Swamp Hens, Common Coots, Mandarin Ducks as well as other types of waterfowl. They are worth seeing. There is no admission fee to see these birds. Bring your binoculars. Caohai Marshes are close to Xin Hua Handicraft (Silver, Bras and Copper made items) and Heqing Town. Heqing train station opened in January of 2012. It is between Dali and Lijiang. You could ask for a driver at Heqing Train or Bus station to take you to Caohai or Xin Hua Village. The cost shouldn't be more than 30-35 RMB oneway. You could then proceed to Xin Hua village from Cao Hai for a visit prior to returning to Heqing. It woiuld take about 20-30 minutes to walk from Caohai to XinHua Village. Buses and Taxis run from Xinhua Village to Heqing regularly until the evening. Caveat: few people in the area speak anything but Chinese so you would be as well to bring your dictionary if you don't speak Chinese. See more..
