   Visited both Yuanmou forest soil and Lang Ba Pu forest soil in Mid June. Had fine weather. Lang Ba Pu forest soil is bigger in scale and rated AAAA attraction. Land formations are sandy. It is not so touristy like stone forest. Sun here does not set over the horizon like on sea or desert. Sun blocked by high mountain. Anyway can see beautiful golden sun set rays on mountain slopes and rock formations. It is beautiful! See more..

   We stayed in Heijing ancient town for 3 days at Mr Wu's place in hope of seeing one of Yunnan's best preserved ancient towns without all the tourist traps that come with Lijiang and Dali - and we were very impressed! Going to this place made us feel like we were still in the last century - where donkeys are the local transport (cars are left just outside the ancient town), very friendly merchants selling local products such as dried pomegranate flowers for stir fries (a must try while you are here!), beautiful mountain scenery, and a lot of history and culture to learn about. Recommend you stay overnight at Mr Wu's house, where we were given a very interesting history tour of the place, which is a Ming dynasty courtyard mansion in which little has changed since the days of its previous owners, several generations of a wealthy salt merchant’s family, the last unfortunate member of which – Wu Weiyang – was executed by the communists in 1949.    It is about one and a half hours drive away from Kunming but worth the visit. Skip the manmade stuff and attractions and head directly to the dinosaur museum/ exhibition hall. Inside is a spectacular display of dinosaur skeletons, and you will meet the Lufengosaurus. Linked to the museum are sites where fossils are still being uncovered. You can see the numerous fossils in the ground. A must place to visit if you are interested in dinosaurs and want to see real dinosaur fossils. See more..

   My visit was at the same time as the Yi Ethnic Torch Festival, so the Ancient City was busy with plenty of tourists. The shops are interesting, there was a lot of outdoor entertainment, and we went to a pleasant and clean restaurant. Overall it was a good experience for a couple of hours. See more..

   I visited way before 2018. Be prepared to dress light and smart casual. The Museum does not have an air-condition but I thoroughly enjoyed the exhibit with its towering dinosaurs early-man exhibits. It's a worth a visit. I am a happy camper after this visit. See more..
