See more..

    Shopping Malls
Wangfujing department Store (Changsha road) image
I've done a lot of window shopping in China, but this is my favorite mall to date. I bought a very nice men's suit and a shirt here and should have bought a bag as well. One of the things that I liked was that the salespeople left me alone a little bit more than others have. See more..
  3. 4.5 Mount Yuelu (502 reviews)
    - Perfect choice for leisure outdoor hiking
Wednesday: 6:00 AM - 11:00 PM Mountains • Historic Walking Areas
    Mount Yuelu image
If you are a local there or have been living there for quite a long time, you definitely would know several trods from whether Central South University, Lushanna Road, Hunan University or Hunan Normal University. And, all those trods could provide an unique experiences regardless the weather or time. We chose to hike from the trod beginning from National Supercomputing Center in Changsha, along side the Denglu Alley, to Chuanshipo Lake on the Mount Yuelu. Wlaking on the trod through the forest uphill after rainny days could be slippery and muddy, but the fresh air and the smell of the damp mud is so engaging. After reaching the top of the hill near the television tower, panoramic view of Xijiang River and the other side of the city would definitely be the bonus of the trip. See more..
  4. 4.5 Yuelu Academy (232 reviews)
    - Nice Academy at the Base of the Mountain
    Historic Sites
    Yuelu Academy image
This academy is at the base of Yuelu Mountain and is 40 RMB to enter. There are a few signs to explain the buildings significance in English but most parts are only Chinese. I spent about an hour here after doing the Yuelu Mountain hike. There's an exit to Yuelu Mountain from here too if you want to go to the mountain. The Yuelu Academy is near Hunan University and a snacking street. I was also pleasantly surprised with warm water in the faucets by the toilets! Closest metro is Hunan University Station and the area is pleasant to walk around in. It was a bit overcast and rainy when I went but I still enjoyed it. The temple was closed when I went for the CNY break but you could still walk around the courtyards and hallways. See more..
  5. 4.5 Hunan Provincial Museum (127 reviews)
    - Very interesting museum
Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Speciality Museums
    Hunan Provincial Museum image
This museum is really worth a visit. Prior to entering inside I was a bit skeptical. Actually the only reason why I was into visiting, was because it was too hot outside. I was searching for a cool place. Rather than going to a shopping mall I have preferred visiting this museum. My visit went beyond my expectations. I thought the most beautiful museums in China are in Beijing and Xi'an only but I was wrong. This is really very nice. The main attraction is Xin Zhui's cadaver that has been exceptionally preserved. Bear in mind two things though. The museum is closed on Monday. Secondly you need to book your ticket well in advance as this museum attracts thousands of visitors every day. When I arrived at the entrance I was refrained from entering. I tried to persuade the customer service to let me in. I justified myself by saying I didn't know anything about the number of visitors allowed to enter. In the end they kindly turned a blind eye and let me in. See more..

See more..

    Tian Han Grand Theater image
Bought cheap seat tickets online for 35 RMB. Just before the show started the ushers offered everyone in the cheap seats the opportunity to move downstairs due to poor ticket sales. I really enjoyed the first hour which can best be described as a Vegas show. If like myself you can’t understand Mandarin I recommend you leave after the first hour, as the show mainly consists of showcasing runners up from the Voice China. See more..

    - Great outdoors activity for a lazy afternoon

    Orange Island Park image
Having just enjoyed an amazing lunch, we wanted to walk it off and this was the perfect place. Despite it being really cold, we loved to see all the activity in the park - perfect to see so many people having fun and enjoying a winter’s afternoon. The island contains a myriad of places to explore, from bamboo gardens, to sculpture gardens to little grottos and scenic lakes. We caught the subway over for 2RMB and then leisurely strolled to the end of the island to check out the young Chairman Mao statue. We decided to catch the miniature train back (40RMB) - something really popular to do, but bye long queue moved quickly. See more..

  17. 4.0 Changsha Ferris wheel (82 reviews)
    - Best Cityscape view
Wednesday: 8:30 AM - 10:30 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Observation Decks & Towers
    Changsha Ferris wheel image
The ferris wheel is located on the fifth floor. It was a little hard to locate with no street signage. You pay just before you get on. The ride lasts for approximately 20 minutes and will set you back 50 RMB per person. The glasses view from the cab isn’t exactly crystal clear, so forget the camera and just enjoy the view. The view itself it’s as spectacular as say the Canton or Pearl Tower. But for a fraction of the cost it’s a bargain. I recommend you go on a Saturday when the fireworks are on. See more..
  18. 4.0 Aiwan Pavilion (75 reviews)
    - Scenic (and popular) photo spot
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Aiwan Pavilion image
Part of Mount Yuelu park, this is at the base of the mountain and therefore the most popular scenic spot. Even on a freezing cold day in the middle of winter it was packed. Easy to reach, you can either take the bus up or it’s a 20 minute walk. We stopped by on the way back down from the Yuelu temple. See more..
  19. 4.0 Tianxin Tower (60 reviews)
    - Nice people, nice place.
Wednesday: 6:00 AM - 12:00 AM Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings
    Tianxin Tower image
The Tianxin Tower is a symbol of Changsha. It is a building complex sitting in the Tianxin Park. The old city wall was originally built in the West Han Dynasty (around 200 B.C.). The current wall was built in the late 1300’s of Ming Dynasty. The tower/ pavilion might be built in some year near 1700. Then the whole park was renovated in 1984. Tianxin Tower is an important historical spot in Changsha. It is related to many historic events, including cultural, administrative and military ones. I visited the park in the morning. Many citizens were playing Tijiquan or performing sword dance there. Nice people, nice place. See more..

The entrance fee was 11RMB. Across the road is the old streets of Changsha where you will find more locals going about their daily lives. See more..
  23. 4.0 Mawangdui Mausoleum (32 reviews)
    - Fascinating mummy inside! Must Go
Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Mawangdui Mausoleum image
An excellent museum that is newly renovated and reopened. The entire area is huge and very clean. This place is an actual archeological site that contained the tombs of three people from the Changsha Kingdom during the western Han dynasty (206 BC – 9 AD). It gives a detailed account from how this tomb was discovered and how the tomb was created given the limited resources people had in the past, from an archeologists point of view. It is so fascinating. What blew my mind was there is an actual mummy inside. Her body was so well preserved and beautiful that scientists could tell what was inside her tummy at her point of death (she led a good life). However, due to the constant exposure to harsh daily elements after it was excavated, it started to show signs of decay. Do visit this place to find out more :) Lastly, this place is FREE ENTRY!! This place is great for both young and old. See more..

    Kai Fu Temple image
My husband and I enjoyed walking around this beautiful temple. The grounds were impressive and we loved being able to pay our respects to Lady Quan Yin despite not being Buddhist. She had two angels standing either side of her and we found the atmosphere to be deeply comforting. The nuns we spoke to were very informative and it was clear how dedicated they are about supporting and guiding others. We left feeling peaceful and happy and could have easily spent more time there soaking up the loving energy and meditating. See more..

    - Relaxing stroll at a nice park!
Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Architectural Buildings • Parks
    Tianxin Park image
The Tianxin park surrounds the Tianxin Pavilion. I used the metro to arrive at this place. It is just a short distant walk from the station. There were some art and sculptures in the park which have explanation to it and you could take your time to read it. After visiting the Pavilion, I ended up on the other side of the park where it was much cooler with many trees around it. You can see a lot of old folks playing cards there and some were taking lunch breaks in the park as well. There was a part of it with huge large stones carved with different famous Chinese people on it. Nice place to visit, if you need a break after long walks or after visiting other tourist spots. There is no large crowds here, so it's just nice for a relaxing stroll at a nice park! See more..

In our opinion, we think this well is one of the best places to have a drink. It's about 50 meters deeps and 25 meters of water should be down there! Overall, It's a great place to have a look at the deep well. During ancient times, it was there. See more..
