   What an adventure. Leaving Lincang we hired a car and driver for a four hour drive to Cangyuan. Our goal was to visit a Wai people village. You have to hire a car and driver to take you to the village which takes about 45 minutes. The village is authentic and about 250 Wai people live there. You can walk around the village and see how the farming community lives. The government has given incentative for the people to continue to live in the village and preserve their way of life. We were told that the village is about 600 years old. They do not speak English so be sure you have an English speaking tour guide. It is the first place I have been and seen women who have blacken their teeth. We elected to take the local bus back to Lincang. When leaving any part of Southern Yunnan province you will be stopped for a random search of luggage. The government cracks down on smuggling in drugs.
