Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve image
It is about a 45-minute walk from the parking area to watch the seabirds. It is a phenomenal experience to see so many seabirds in one area. I would recommend to leave the cape way before sunset, although the sunset was so gorgeous on the Atlantic Ocean with the lighthouse on the cape. We almost hit a moose on country highway driving back to St. John's at night. See more..
  7. 5.0 Lighthouse Picnics (223 reviews)
    - Don’t miss this!

Ordering and picking up was seamless and efficient. The ladies who met us at the Pool were lovely. We drove to the meadow and walked in from there. A couple of the hills are steep with loose gravel, but absolutely do able. The lunch was HUGE! Fabulous bread and real fillings. The lemonade is amazing. We could not eat our desserts and brought them home for later enjoyment. The scenery is amazing and we experienced rolling clouds of mist, then sunshine, which was pretty magical. Definitely recommended! See more..

    - Great view of Saddle Island and Red Bay. Also nice view of the area icebergs!
Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
    Tracey Hill Trail image
This trail has around 600-ish steps, and while it looked intimidating, there are rest benches along the way. We took advantage of them as phot-ops and the view of Red Bay and Saddle Island got better and better as we went up. There were also motivational quotes along the way, encouraging to go further. Apparently there was a legend at a pond near the top of the hill, and that was pretty interesting to find out. Now, I'm curious. Maybe I should start draining the pond. There is also a logbook at the entrance of the trail, pretty sheltered as well, but since it's exposed to the elements, the pen dried out. See more..
  12. 5.0 Labrador Interpretation Centre (6 reviews)
    - An outstandingly informative place to visit
    Speciality Museums
    Labrador Interpretation Centre image
Anyone who will be in the Happy Valley - Goose Bay region should plan to visit this interpretive centre. We found all of the provincial interpretive centres in Newfoundland and Labrador to be worthwhile, but this is a hidden gem that should be identified as a 'must-see' place. Out of all of the local museums and attractions we saw on our cross-Canada trip, this one, for me, was the highlight. It provides a comprehensive summary of the history and culture of the local inhabitants and of the history and development of the region. We are discussing perhaps again making the trans-Labrador trip and, if we do, I will certainly visit this place again. Entry by donation. See more..

Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site image
My husband and I stopped by Cape Spear on our return to St. John's after taking a Puffin and Whale cruise out of Bay Bulls. It was definitely worth the detour. The weather was beautiful so the views were outstanding. We also enjoyed the old lighthouse historical museum which is worth the minimal fee. The new lighthouse is also attractive. There are some trails to explore as well. It's cool to stand at the easternmost point in North America and realize that there's nothing but sea between you and Ireland for thousands of miles. We enjoyed this very much. See more..

  17. 4.5 L'Anse Aux Meadows National Historic Site (738 reviews)
    - Absolutely Stellar Experience!
    Historic Sites
L'Anse Aux Meadows National Historic Site image
We had been here many years ago, and wanted to return with our young teenagers (one of whom is very interested in vikings). We absolutely loved this experience. It was well worth the money. We also bought tickets for the evening experience (Sagas and Shadows), which was in one of the sod huts, sitting around a campfire, listening to the ‘Vikings’ tell stories. We even got refreshments! It really added a lot to the experience. We’d recommend taking in the show as well as the regular daytime experience. It was also really beautiful in the evening as the sun was starting to set. I wish we could have stayed longer! There’s a little trail to get to the beach, which is also really beautiful, if you have extra time. See more..
  18. 4.5 Quidi Vidi (664 reviews)
    - Very Popular Place
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Quidi Vidi image
Very little parking there. Parked a ways away and walked there. We were told on the way that there was quite a line up and would have to wait. When we arrived, the apparent line up was gone so we got a table almost right away. Many wanted to sit on the deck, so you had to wait at a table inside until one outside was available. We were there mid afternoon and only sampled beverages, which there were lots to choose from. Wanted to purchase some merchandise but there stock seemed low. Our server told us there was another location to purchase bling and beer. Called The Hop Shop on Harborview Avenue, it had a much better selection of both when we went there. See more..
  19. 4.5 Western Brook Pond (656 reviews)
    - Truly unbelievable scenery
Bodies of Water • Geologic Formations
    Western Brook Pond image
The scenery is breathtaking- Jurassic Park esque! I cannot get over how huge these hills were- my jaw was on the floor most of the boat ride. The info along the way was super informative. Then, just when I thought the day couldn’t get any better our guide (musician K.J. Hollahan) pulled out his guitar for a spontaneous kitchen party on the boat on the way back. This tour is worth every cent and would 10/10 recommend to anyone visiting the west coast/Gros Morne. Get on KJ’s boat if you can!! See more..
  20. 4.5 Cape Bonavista Lighthouse (540 reviews)
    - It is all about the puffins
    Lighthouses
    Cape Bonavista Lighthouse image
Lighthouse was nice to look at, but it was the puffins that amazed us. They fly from point A to B quickly, land amongst the hundreds of puffins, and are off again. We could have watched for hours. This will be one of the highlights of our two week Newfoundland trip. See more..
  21. 4.5 Quidi Vidi Brewery (490 reviews)
    - A historic brewery
    Friday: 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM Breweries
    Quidi Vidi Brewery image
The brewery offered great views of the surrounding area while sampling their best brews. You will want to pay close attention to the signs outside to make sure you actually get into the building. It took us 2 tries on separate days but the trick is that you will want to walk along the left side of the area where you are instructed not to walk into. Keep to the left of the building and walk up the stairs. The loft has a wonderful setup for drinks and enjoying views of the cove. We enjoyed the iceberg lager brews, the local ales and the service was great. See more..
  22. 4.5 Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse (488 reviews)
    - Great view of the Gros Morne coastline
    Lighthouses
    Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse image
There is an exhibit inside the lighthouse and see how the rooms looked like while in operation. There are also trails surrounding the lighthouse which featured the amazing views of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Would recommend hiking the castline around the lighthouse. And also drop by during sunset. Also the sunset with the view of the lighthouse is gorgeous as seen from Rocky Harbour. See more..
  23. 4.5 Long Point Lighthouse (431 reviews)
    - Must do in Twillingate
Friday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • Lighthouses
    Long Point Lighthouse image
This is a nice lighthouse and it also offers the Johnson Geocentre Titanic display/exhibit for a few of $5 per person. Children under 5 years old are free. They accept cash only so I was glad one person in our party of 9 had cash! The young man at the desk was also very nice and obliging. The exhibit does not have all of the artifacts that were present at the original exhibit at the Geocentre, however it is well done and worth reading through if one has the time to do so. On the day we visited, it was choppy on the water and windy, not detracting from the rugged romantic feel of the Lighthouse See more..

  25. 4.5 Terry Fox Monument (394 reviews)
    - Tucked away, satisfying tribute
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
    Terry Fox Monument image
This monument is tucked away in a small corner by the harbour. I walked from our b&b, which was on Gower St. about 10 minutes. I have honoured Terry Fox yearly by teaching my grade one students about his courage and legacy. It was wonderful to see this lovely tribute to an inspiring person. It is a very satisfactory memorial, containing history and a statue of Terry. I would recommend it as a place to go and count your blessings. See more..
  26. 4.5 Basilica Cathedral of St. John the Baptist (388 reviews)

  27. 4.5 Dungeon Provincial Park (372 reviews)
    - Beautiful coast and arch formation, but the road is unpaved
    Parks
    Dungeon Provincial Park image
The park is just a short drive away from Cape Bonavista and the Elliston puffin colony. The coast looks beautiful with 9ts unique sea stacks and arch formations. Please be mindful when driving though. It is unpaved and potholes are deep and span both directions in some points. The highlight of the park is the arch formation and that hosts an amazing view of the ocean, but sadly on our visit, it was raining hard and was a little foggy. See more..
  28. 4.5 The Tablelands (339 reviews)
    - Unique and Awe Inspiring
    Mountains • Geologic Formations
    The Tablelands image
The Tablelands in Gros Morne National Park are a strange and mystical place! Unique in our world this is only one of three or four places like it to be found on Earth. The Tablelands are a geological marvel that helped scientists understand and prove the theory of plate tectonics. In this place, millions of years ago, two tectonic plates crashed together, forcing the Earth’s crust to buckle, and slide down deep upon itself, forcing part of the Earth’s mantle up over the crust. Unique geology and plant life, as well as incredible the incredible vistas make this a must-see when travelling to Newfoundland and Gros Morne Park. I recommend participating in the guided tour hosted by park staff to learn about the incredible landscape and features from an expert for a complete experience. See more..
  29. 4.5 Jellybean Row Houses (320 reviews)

Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
    Jellybean Row Houses image
When I went to NLFD I knew I wanted to see Jellybean Row and it did not disappoint. The street is not actually called Jellybean Row but rather Duckworth Road is a a good place to start. Anywhere there are row houses, you will see the colours. A tradition meant to help guide the fisherman home on foggy nights. There is no cost to this walking trip! See more..
