Excellent and informative

Group and Off Season Tours can be booked in April, 2023. This “Cultural Tourism Award” winner is a 20 minute ferry ride from scenic Portugal Cove. When you arrive, the #2 Underground Mine Tour & Museum is a 5 minute car ride from the ferry dock. At our facility you will be greeted by local tour guides who will share our history and tell you amazing stories about our forefathers. You'll be inspired by tales of these hard working Bell Islanders who risked their lives to supply the world markets with precious iron ore and were instrumental in contributing to the economic stability of the province of Newfoundland Labrador in the early 1900's. Our experience includes a walking tour that goes down into the #2 Mine to 650 feet on a 10 degree slope. Wear a jacket or warm sweater, it is 6 degrees. After your tour, sit and enjoy a cup of our own Miners' Blend Coffee with a treat in our newly renovated Mug Up Coffee Shop.

Amazing tour, awesome artifacts, highly recommend!
My family and I had an amazing time doing the tour of the Bell Island Mine. Brian delivered an absolutely outstanding tour filled with interesting facts and stories shared with him by his two grandfathers, who had both spent many years working in the mines. He did a wonderful job of helping us imagine what it was like to work there. He was very interactive with the kids, and he kept everyone engaged for the whole tour. My son Jaeden had a wonderful experience to say the least, and is already asking when we can go back again. I'm sure Brian's grandfathers would be very proud of him for continuing the tradition of a job well done underground. Thanks so much!?

Fascinating and a piece of history
We had so much fun in this tour. Geraldine is so well-spoken. She talked loudly and very clearly to ensure everyone could hear and understand. The history of the mines is fascinating. It is so nice being down in the mines while listening to Geraldine take you through the history. It is 6 degrees Celsius in the mines all year long. I wore long pants and a lululemon scuba zip-up and I found that was adequate for me. Definitely wear a heavier sweater or a lightweight warm jacket. You’re down under the earth, in the mines, for almost an hour. My nose was cold towards the middle of the tour. Just keep in mind it is damp and cold (but obviously no wind so it wasn’t a typical cold feeling). I was with two 8-year old children and they were so interested, Geraldine did her best to keep even the smaller kids interested. This was my second time doing the tour but my mom’s and boys’ first time and they all enjoyed it. Everyone knows to visit the Mines on their trip to Bell Island so don’t skip out on this adventure. Get a feed of Dicks’ Fish and Chips after (seriously the best Fichi in NL!!!!). We visited from St. John’s and had a wonderful time.
