    Phnom Chisor image
There is an ancient Khmer temple located on top of the hill. The temple was built in the 11th century of laterite and bricks with carved sandstone lintels by the Khmer Empire king Suryavarman I, who practiced Brahmanism. It was dedicated to the Hindu divinities Shiva and Vishnu. The original name of the temple was Sri Suryaparvata, "The mountain of Surya". See more..

    Angkor Borei Museum image
There's nothing left to see in the village itself, but for the history it's worth the side track. The museum is small, but they've got lots packed into it. The water levels were too low for us to get to Phnom Dah, but it was worth the boat journey just to come here - the speedboat through the canals was great! Take a picnic. See more..
  4. 3.5 Prasat Neang Khmau (10 reviews)
    - Angkorian Era Towers in the Black Lady Complex
    Religious Sites
    Prasat Neang Khmau image
This is a free site, so it's convenient to make a stop over here on the way to the temple at Phnom Chisor. The towers face east, so for better lighting, visit it in the morning. There are currently two brick towers in the area. One of which has a beautifully carved lintel. Both of them are said to have original interior paintings and it would be an experience if one can ask permission from the monks to open it. It is a must! Though not as impressive as its counterparts in Angkor, the prasat neang khmau offers a good insight on how extensive the Khmer civilization was in terms of scope and depth. Cradle of the Khmer Civilization". Sadly, not many people know the history of this humble Cambodian province. Interestingly, Prasats Neang Khmau have sister-temple towers in Angkor itself: the Prasat Kravan. I'm glad to have seen both and have known their connection! See more..
