A unique destination for off-the-beaten-path travellers, nature seekers & adventurers in wild Cambodia. 3 hours by road from Siem Reap town, centred between Koh Ker and Preah Khan of Kompong Svay temples. Activities comprise forest hikes, ancient ruins, wildlife spotting and birding, and even a pair of ziplines across the valley. Working closely with local community to protect this fragile land. we absolutely loved the bath in the waterfall- its very safe, refreshing, fun and beautiful! we enjoyed the natural jacuzzi in the river and the excitement of dip under the waterfall, the local people with their various food stalls and their easy-going life and the young tourists having a wonderful day out! certainly one of our best experiences on this holiday! Things to Do in Preah Vihear Province image
Unique temple complex situated on a hill top with sweeping views of Thailand and Cambodia. Unlike other temples I visited in Cambodia there are long walk ways between the doorways, enhancing the expansive feel of the temple. In jarring contrast are the sand bag 'pill boxes' with slits aimed toward Thailand. Not long ago the temple site was hotly contested between Thai and Cambodian troops You must rent a pickup truck for $10 for the steep drive to the complex, self driving is not allowed. Most domestic visitors stay in nearby guest houses because of Preah Vihear's remoteness, I was with a Cambodian friend and stayed at guest house with basic accommodations for $30 a night. Cellphone reception is spotty if you're depending on web-based maps for guidance. See more..

Koh Ker, three hours from Siem Reap, served as the capital of the Khmer empire from 928 to 944, and was built under King Jayavarman IV under whose reign colossal sculptures and lingas were constructed, leading to charges of megalomania. Some of the lingas remain, though the sculptures have been removed to the museum in Phnom Penh. The site, which has only recently been demined, is dominated by Prasat Thom, a 30 meter high pyramid temple. In view of the distance, there are far fewer crowds here, making a visit an easier and more pastoral experience. See more..
