    Preah Romkel and waterfall
It is hard to find much info about this place online so maybe this will be of use to someone... Preah Rumkel/ Romkel is a little village on the Mekong near this waterfall. It’s a nice place to visit on moto, described by some as seeing the 4000 Islands on the otherwise of the border, before tourism really hit. 4km past the village north- or entering from the other side it’s after the waterfall turn off- there is a small tourist area ($2 entry). There is a little beach area for a swim/ watching the sunset, a restaurant and a few stalls with the usual tourist tat. From here you can get a boat trip to see the dolphins for $15; it takes under an hour including the time sitting on a bank watching for them in the distance (after which you float through the area and hopefully they pop up closer to you). I thought it was worth the money. There is one guest house here, rooms/ bungalows are fairly fancy/ spacious with hot showers and AC, and cost $15. There is a homestay option for $8. Food at the local restaurant was whatever you were given- and not bad- and cost $5 per person including beer. The waterfall itself is 9km away from this area and is worth a quick visit and another $2 ticket. There are more of the usual tourist stalls here and a hideous looking casino and buses bringing in tourists. The waterfall is more impressive that the photos give credit for though. You can bathe with the locals at the top of the falls. The road into this area is a 32km dirt track which is dusty but in good condition, there was minimal traffic.

Travel to Cambodia/Preah VIhear Province for work, but my collaborators took me out to this amazing place.
Amazing place!! However, you need a permit to travel to the area. Furthermore, it is wise to travel with locals (i.e., they now the ins and outs of how to get there, what/whom to visit, and most importantly: How to respect the place and the people in the area).
