  2. 5.0 Lastiver Cave (33 reviews)
    - Beautiful place & hike
    Caverns & Caves
    Lastiver Cave image
A really nice & beautiful place, you can see the caves (I only found one), the campsite, the river/waterfalls and the canyon itself. It's a bit tricky to find so GPS was very useful. You can stay overnight in the treehouse (5.000 dram, but might depend on season), if you just go for the day they charge 1.000 dram "entrance fee". I was invited for coffee & cognac, so well worth it. You can start the hike from Yenokavan village or Apaga resort (the path starts at their parking lot & it's easy to follow, about 30mins from Apaga to Lastiver campsite). After the camp I followed the river downstream (ask at the camp), after the water damn it's an easy walk along the forest road - you can go all the way to Ijevan, about 10km/2.5hrs walk through the valley & hills. Attached is the business card of the campsite (for reservations/prices - limited English!). It might be busy on hot summer days as it's a favorite of locals to cool down :) See more..

    Dilijan National Park image
Absolutely gorgeous to hike in - bring good shoes, plenty of sunscreen and be prepared for mud, flies / bugs / forest-related nuisances. The hike from Dilijan to Parz Lake isn't particularly difficult but there's definitely some parts where the more inexperienced hiker will struggle for a bit. The views of the meadows and vistas are stunning and this is the main reason to visit Dilijan. Definitely a must. See more..
  14. 4.5 Matosavank Monastery (39 reviews)
    - Certainly not among the most impressive monasteries in Armenia; but showing a special charm
Saturday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 2-3 hours Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Mysterious Sites • Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
    Matosavank Monastery image
This monastery is certainly not one of the most impressive in Armenia; but it has a special charm, which derives from at least two reasons. The first one is its condition of construction reduced in part to ruins. I wrote "in part", because in fact another part is quite well preserved: the church itself (which an inscription claims to be founded in 1247), an imposing katchkar on the outside. But both the preserved parts and those reduced to ruins, present a mixture between the surviving work of men and the natural environment that regains its rights (with the herbs and mosses - we are at 1300 m. - penetrating into all the walls, preserved and not preserved), with the result of providing abundant material for reflection on what is usually called the "transience of human things". The second reason attracting to this place is that it's far from the carriage road, therefore the path towards it involves crossing a dense forest, luxuriant thanks to the particular rainfall of the Dilijan region. Then, the march towards the monastery also enhances the feeling of the strength of the natural environment, in which the Armenians of the past have inserted this testimony of their faith. Overall, therefore, a walk to the monastery is highly recommended. See more..
  15. 4.5 Local Lore Museum and Art Gallery of Dilijan (35 reviews)
    - amazing place
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 5:45 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • Lessons & Workshops • Art Museums
Local Lore Museum and Art Gallery of Dilijan image
The Local Lore Museum of Dilijan which was founded in 1950 by a teacher, Yeghishe Hovsepyan, provides a comprehensive view of the history of Tavush Region, the historical development of the local people, their way of life, material culture monuments, historical and geographical conditions. The two-floor art gallery displays a great number of artworks created by Armenian and foreign artists. Especially interesting for the visitors is the collection of social realism paintings and sculptures. At the initial stage, all the items were collected in the town library. The museum building was originally built in 1926 to serve as a hotel, and later as a hospital. After a repair in 1967, it has been developed into the Local Lore Museum and Art Gallery of Dilijan. The old building was then demolished and, with the financial support of the city of Dilijan, the new museum was built. The official opening of the museum took place in 2010 and since April 1, 2010, it is open to visitors. See more..
  16. 4.5 Ijevan Wine-Brandy Factory (12 reviews)
    - Excellent wines and cognac
Factory Tours • Wine Tours & Tastings
    Ijevan Wine-Brandy Factory image
We really enjoyed our making wine tour. Ailena, our tour guide, gave us an informative and comprehensive explanation of the wine making process. We also learned about the differences between the distillation of cognac, brandy and vodka. They have a large selection of their vintage wines, some as far back as 1974--a well stocked cellar. We had the top end package tour which included the premium wines and 20 year aged cognac. See more..
  17. 4.5 Verev Rope Park (10 reviews)
    - Nice park with challenging climbing parcours.
Saturday: 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM Zipline & Aerial Adventure Parks
    Verev Rope Park image
Nice small park with challenging climb parcours. When we visited the park, two out of four routes were available. The yellow (easiest) and the red (hardest). Safety was taken seriously. Gear was in good condition. You are only allowed to start the climb after you had received and understood (tested!) the instructions. Each stage (about ten per route) has a photographic instruction at the start. Rest of the park is still in development but has already some playgrounds for the youngest children and a coffee booth. Minus: The 800 meters access road is in bad condition. See more..
  18. 4.5 Saint Sargis Chapel (10 reviews)
    - Description
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
    Saint Sargis Chapel image
Since the 13th century a school used to function in Goshavank, which was mentioned as a school, university and seminary in historical sources. The school is thought to operate in the building, which served as both a chapel and an auditorium. It was built with gigantic and rough stones; such a structure was not much characteristic of that period. Armenian and foreign languages, grammar, philosophy, writing skills and other subjects were taught at the school. A number of prominent scientists and intellectuals used to study and work there. Among them were Kirakos Gandzaketsi and Vardan Areveltsi. See more..

  20. 4.5 Yenokavan Canyon (7 reviews)
    - Possible paradise
    Canyons • Geologic Formations
Did some hiking in part of the Yenokavan Canyon last week when during our time in Armenia. It is incredible! The canyon is hikeable for those in decent shape, some paths are little more than game trails and the landscape is relatively untouched. Stunning scenery everywhere you so, waterfalls, cliffs, watch the river go by and of course caves to explore like Anapat Cave (see separate review). We could have spent a week trying to see all of it but our time there was well spent See more..

See more..

  25. 4.5 Arakelots Monastery (2 reviews)
    - Interesting khachkar
Ancient Ruins • Churches & Cathedrals
It’s Tavush Marz, about 3 kilometers to the west of the Kirants village. Medieval Arakelots monastery complex was built on the left bank of the river with the same name (Kirants) on a picturesque hill. It’s surrounded by high and thick walls and consists of two churches, a vestibule, dwellings and residential buildings. The main church (XIII century.) belongs to the type of buildings so called "nartex hall". Don’t miss the inscription , containing the date 1245, over the door to it. Adjoining small vaulted shurch (XIV C.) belongs to the type of single nave basilicas. And pay the particular attention to the khachkar (carved stone with holy cross), called Surp (saint) Karapet. This khachkar is distinguished amongst similar ones by very unusual and complex style of ornamentation. See more..

    Nor Varagavank Monastery image
The medieval monastic complex Nor Varagavank, one of the famous and richest monasteries in local history, undoubtedly merits the visit. It is located on a wooded hillside in two kilometers from the village of the same name in Tavush region and consists of two parts. Its oldest one– pale yellowish church Anapat and the ancestral vaulted mausoleum were built in XII-th century when the monastery was found. Painted front door with two carved cross-stones at the sides is quite rare detail in armenian sacred architecture. From one side the church is adjoined by small single-nave chapel, and by semi-destroyed porch – from another. Later nearby was constructed one more church - inside cross - shaped Surb Astvatsatsin – with four two-story side-chapels in the corners and the dome on a high cylindrical drum. One of two entrancies into this church has decorations, resembling mosaic, of dark purple and light blue stones, with carved zoomorphic and plant ornaments. From that side the church is adjacent to a large rectangular narthex. See more..

  30. 4.0 Lake Parz (153 reviews)
    - Nice place to visit but not dining out
    Bodies of Water
    Lake Parz image
It is a nice place to visit. It's got some outdoor activities (zipline, air boat, ...). If you plan for dinning there I should say that there is no good restaurent there. There is only one with the worst manager ever. We sat on the table for 20 minutes and nobody came to ask what we want here. We called the waiters many times, they were saying wait we will come and the were leaving. There was a family before us having the same problem. They wait for 30 minutes and then left. See more..
