amazing place

The Local Lore Museum of Dilijan which was founded in 1950 by a teacher, Yeghishe Hovsepyan, provides a comprehensive view of the history of Tavush Region, the historical development of the local people, their way of life, material culture monuments, historical and geographical conditions. The two-floor art gallery displays a great number of artworks created by Armenian and foreign artists. Especially interesting for the visitors is the collection of social realism paintings and sculptures. At the initial stage, all the items were collected in the town library. The museum building was originally built in 1926 to serve as a hotel, and later as a hospital. After a repair in 1967, it has been developed into the Local Lore Museum and Art Gallery of Dilijan. The old building was then demolished and, with the financial support of the city of Dilijan, the new museum was built. The official opening of the museum took place in 2010 and since April 1, 2010, it is open to visitors.

An unexpected and wonderful Museum, very modern and light, with fascinating exhibits
A better name would be "The Ethnographic and Archaeological Museum and Art Gallery" now that the basement is open. The paintings and sculptures are well worth seeing, with a surprising spread from across Europe and from across the centuries. The basement has fascinating selection of artefacts, both ethnographic and archaeological. Set aside a whole afternoon for this visit.

    They have some interesting paintings
After a trip to the monasteries and Parz Lich lake I asked the driver to drop me over the town center. I walked to look around and there's not much that interest me so I kept walking heading to the park until I saw this building and went to check on it. So it was the museum and gallery in Dilijan. I forgot how much I paid since they don't give any receipt or ticket. When I went inside I saw some interesting paintings which caught my attention, and I just stared at it for a while. Then someone tapped my back and it was a group of teenagers. They asked me if they can have pictures with me. I don't have any problems with it, but it's just that I look awful that day. Then I went on to examine much more paintings and took some photos of those that I like most until it's was almost closing time.
