  1. 5.0 Tushpa Wine Cellar (13 reviews)

Tushpa Wine Cellar is a traditional Armenian winery, both family-owned and managed. The winery is named for the historic area of Tushpa, now known as Van, from where our ancestors originated. We are located in the heart of the Ararat Valley, 35 km west of downtown Yerevan. Settled beneath the Biblical Mount Ararat. TUSHPA was founded in 1992 by the winemaker Mihran Manasserian. Mihran Manasserian creates remarkable wines through winemaking traditions that his ancestors, passed down to him. Khosrov Forest State Reserve is one of the richest with biodiversity nature reserves in the temperate zone of the Earth. The reserve is a real natural treasure in the heart of Republic of Armenia. Covering only about 23.5 thousand ha, Khosrov Forest is a home for more than the half of the flora of Armenia (more than 3500 species) and about 1/3 of the wealth of the Caucasus flora (about 6000 species). The big range of mountainous ecosystems are habitats of 283 species of vertebrates, including highly endangered Caucasian leopard, Bezoar goat, Black vulture, Caspian snowcock, Armenian viper etc. It is a unique opportunity to make a tour in the reserve and find a lot of new things about which you may be even didn’t hear before. - Important visit this place

Very amazing monestry building close to Turkish border. Amazing view to mountain Ararat. Little out of yerevan, but with a car just 30 minutes + - more, but you found easy trip from travel agencies or just driver to good price. Entrace is free so just one more plus why need visit . The main building very nice, just push stronger the door, open little hard. Left side have a ladder down to secret chamber (if I not see some come out there I never found). Very small this hole and the rail slip and cold so carefully and take out the backpack because you stack. Have a "back door" way up to top of the hill with Armenian flag . And the panorama from here is just WOOOW See more..
  6. 4.0 Azatskoye Reservoir (13 reviews)
    - Very beautiful water reservoir with glowing mountains -- but the water levels are very low!
Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water
    Azatskoye Reservoir image
We rode our bikes from Yerevan to Azat Reservoir. Arrived at the reservoir just before sunset and the view was stellar! The mountains in the background glowed red. There were lots of people driving down to the water to go fishing, or perhaps swim. You can drive, walk, or bike across the dam. There is no gate. There used to be some facilities here, but they were abandoned long ago. Unfortunately, I estimate the water was no more than about 20 feet deep, whereas it probably used to be many hundreds of feet deep. Drought? Crisis? Not sure, but let's hope the reservoir recharges in the next few years. See more..
  7. 4.0 Karapet Monastery (1 review)
    - Accessible not at any time of the year
Ancient Ruins • Churches & Cathedrals
    Karapet Monastery image
This monastery is one of those that you reach not so easily and not at any time of the year. It’s located on the crest of the ridge. In the winter, for example, there's a lot of snow. The monastery is known and very cute. The only difference is that, the walls of the church itself, as all whole perimeter fence stand from the last reconstruction, taken place in the late 19th century, but the nartex of impressive size next to the church is dilapidated. I liked, of course, how the monastery fits into the landscape and the scenery. I liked the artistic khachkars and tombstones in the monastery cemetery. But most of all I liked bas-reliefs above the entrances. The fact that they belong to the prominent painter and sculptor Vardapet Sargis is not surprising, it rather seems self-evident. And the architect was famous Booth. Even it is a pity that the monastery is now in this state. See more..

  9. 3.0 Ancient Dvin Ruins (3 reviews)
    - Off the beaten track
    Spent 1-2 hours Ancient Ruins
    Ancient Dvin Ruins image
This is a pyramid sitting in the middle of peach orchards. Largely unexcavated, this structure can be seen from quite a distance. For whatever reason, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs hasn't developed the site. Technically, it sits on private land so the limited amount of excavation that has occured has been undertaken by local individuals in the nearby village (which may or may not be a good thing). This site contains many mysteries that will perhaps someday be uncovered. See more..
