Very beautiful water reservoir with glowing mountains -- but the water levels are very low!
We rode our bikes from Yerevan to Azat Reservoir. Arrived at the reservoir just before sunset and the view was stellar! The mountains in the background glowed red. There were lots of people driving down to the water to go fishing, or perhaps swim. You can drive, walk, or bike across the dam. There is no gate. There used to be some facilities here, but they were abandoned long ago. Unfortunately, I estimate the water was no more than about 20 feet deep, whereas it probably used to be many hundreds of feet deep. Drought? Crisis? Not sure, but let's hope the reservoir recharges in the next few years.

road is an adventure
We plannet a trip, where we would pass the reservoir. We stopped in a few places which turned out impossible to make a decent due to the terrain. never the less, there were soooo many amazing views around us... but the road... what looked like a grawel road on the google maps turned out to be almost non existing road. we did not have a 4x4 and we barely managed to pass on some places. luckily there was one lada in front of us and we were following his line of driving.

Azat Reservoir
We stopped on our road trip through Armenia to take in the breath taking scenery surrounding Azat Reservoir. With the spring flowers all around, coupled with the mountains, it is a sight to behold. Apparently in 2015 the reservoir was very low, but this year, as early as may the reservoir was reported to be extremely high. Beautiful countryside.
