Created in 1958, with its 35,750 ha, it is located in the south of the state of Sao Paulo, covers part of the municipalities of Iporanga and Apiai and has territorial continuity with the EP Intervales. In addition to the value as a remnant forest area, the importance is emphasized by the association of the forest with the so-called “relief relief”, with cave systems that house unique underground landscapes, with a great morphological variety of speleothems and paleontological sites. Due to the number - more than 400, beauty and complexity of its caves, PETAR is an internationally recognized park. Due to the high level of preservation of the region, PETAR shelters species of the Atlantic Forest typical of primary forests (vegetation with high degree of preservation, almost without human intervention, with trees between 25 and 30 meters high), such as cinnamon, cedar and palm heart. -jucara. 4.5Parque Estadual de Ilhabela(461 reviews) - Go, But take a Jeep Sunday: Spent 2-3 hours State Parks • Parks
Great park, amazing forest. Best way to see it is on a Jeep tour and I would recommend using Maremar tours, the biggest and best in town! Waterfalls can be reached by several different hikes, but most of them (the hikes) are quite a way off the bus routes.See more..
4.5Parque Estadual da Serra do Mar(438 reviews) - Nice place to enjoy nature! Sunday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours State Parks • Forests • Waterfalls
You have to face 20 km of dirt road and if it's not raining you will have no problem... The place is very safe and you have 3 options for trekking. Today we had Rio Paraibuna that it's self guided and it has 1,7 km and places to take a bath on the waterfall. It was great!!!See more..
4.5Pedra Grande(369 reviews) - Worth the Climb Sunday: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM State Parks
We decided to tackle Pedra Grande while visiting family in Atibaia - the difficulty is moderate, but plenty of opportunities to rest and rocks to relax on! You can also go up via a small dirt road, but we went from the base up on the trails. Nature will have to be your bathroom as there are none along the way and it’s about a leisurely two hour hike. Bring some snacks or a picnic lunch for the top! See more..

4.5Parque Estadual Carlos Botelho(109 reviews) - Uma estrada encantadora em meio a mata nativa Sunday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours State Parks
See more..

4.5Parque Estadual do Juquery(77 reviews) - easy to access nature Sunday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours State Parks • Parks • Hiking Trails
I needed a different location, to try and enjoy nature and hopefully find some birds. The park has a few trails set out, two small ones, a 14 km trail and one for mountain bikes. I walked the two smaller ones, so I did not see all of the park. People seem to come here for a walk as you would in a city park. There were a few small climbs but I think most people would find it suitable to walk. Well I came for birds and I was pleasantly surprised to encounter a few burrowing owls, see a few type of smaller birds and two species of Woodpecker. It was definitely worth the hour plus drive to get there. The park has two gates, I entered at number one, which is a manned entrance, with parking a childrens playground, a picnic area and toilets. The smallest trail is a covered, but the rest of the park is an open area with hardly any shade. bring water and sunscreen . I only spent a couple of hours here, but the larger trail will require a bit more.See more..
4.0Parque Estadual Vassununga(58 reviews) - Worth it if you're already nearby Sunday: 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours State Parks
The park isn't that impressive. It has a small interpretation center and one main trail (not very large) in which you can see some really serious old and large trees. It is not worth it if you're coming a long way just to visit the park, but if you happen to be in the vicinity it could make for a pleasant day out.See more..
4.5Parque Estadual Porto Ferreira(49 reviews) - Very beautiful trail in state park Porto Ferreira Sunday: 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM State Parks
The national park has two trials, or a possibility to combine both and walk 20km. One trial, the big trees, is the attraction of the park with good maintanance. 3.5 km to go and 3.5 to come back. About 2 hours easy walk. The other is possible to walk but there is not always maintanance, so not always possible to walk. See more..

4.0Parque Estadual Furnas do Bom Jesus(18 reviews) - Excelente opção de passeio Sunday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours State Parks • Parks
Aspectos positivos: o parque conta com excelentes profissionais: Matheus, Silvia, Gilberto foram os que eu conheci. As trilhas são limpas (na verdade são aceiros que são utilizados como trilhas). A vista do mirante é espetacular. Vários tucanos são avistados, águias, periquitos, dentre outros. Vale a pena conhecer. Ponto negativo: o local poderia ter alguma estrutura de apoio ao visitante, mas entendo que este não é o foco do parque e sim a preservação.See more..
