Simple But Profoundly Moving

Whilst there is not a lot to see at this site, the photographic display is moving and does give a very vivid picture of the disaster and the immediate impact on those who experienced this unbelievable phenomenon. The location of the navy boat 813 also impacts on your sense of the power of the tsunami as you understand that it was propelled 2 kms inland. One of the most significant features of the site, for me, is the concrete “monument”, its height replicating the height of the wave as it swept through the area. I feel this is a site one should visit when in Khao Lak, not so much to understand the disaster, as most have us have seen footage on media outlets, but to appreciate the fact that the people here have, under extraordinary circumstances, been able to rebuild their lives and their community. A small “tourist market stall” sells items, the proceeds of which are donated to local charity related to the disaster.

    Small museum with outside area
Make sure to cover the inside and outside area and look at everything. A guy in the outside area has interesting and saddening photos to show. The inside area is quite small but full of information if you give it a close look and watch the documentary on the TV.

    Very modest, but very impressive
Walls with photographs of this horrific day, videos with testimonials and infographics. And outside of course the navy boat 813 that was thrown upon the land 2 km away from the shore. All revenues of the museum go to education to the youth to create awareness of the dangers of tsunami's
