.. once more , a lesson in history.
The citadel of Tirgu Neamt -known as the "Cetatea Neamtului". Built by Teutonic knights of Barsa who were sent to fortify the passes of the Carpathians to offer some protection from the innovations from the east, all this according to some historians around 1211-1225 - however the excavations on the premises din not find any proof related to the Teutonic ancestry the style of the fortress is undoubtedly that of the Hohenstaufen German imperial military architecture. Still the proof to support these is to be found. Excavations did not present any relic older than late 1300 ... so it might be a myth it might be lost in the tides of time ... Today it is a tourist attraction and a must see - from my perspective . So be prepared to leave your car in the parking lot at the feet of the hill - parking for the day is pocket friendly 10 Ron - about 2 euros- and the fee is collected on premises. Prepare for a steep climb - short but steep - trough the woods on an asphalt road and the entry ticket you will get at the beginning of the bridge you need to cross to enter the fortress. The fortress is fairly small but interesting - nicely prepared rooms await the visitor with description of the items - still majority are in Romanian so for the foreign visitor it will be a bit challenging. Overall a very good experience , if you are in the area I would say a must do for anybody who is into history - or for anybody who is looking for a lesson in history - with a bit of workout from the climb to the citadel. Go, see and enjoy

One of my best in Romania
A great Castle with a scary bridge which brings you inside. Ther you can find important fragments of the rich history of this part of Romania. When you climb on the walls you can get a beautiful view over the valley.
