Meet the City of -Iasi !

Iaşi has stood for centuries as the most important political, economic, social and cultural centre in North-Eastern Romania. Stylish, cosy and richly rewarding, Iaşi is brimming with history and art. The impressive number of interacting scientific and cultural institutions explain why Iaşi is considered to be “the cultural capital of Romania”. Iaşi is not a city, but rather a state of mind. It’s alive, and it’s not about the buildings, though they amaze every day, it’s not about the university, which is the oldest in the country, it’s not about the parks wich are natural monuments of beauty, it’s about the people who never get tired of being alive.

several km of walking through landmarks.
The historical center of the city of Iasi is stretching more or less in straight line along the boulevard Stefan cel Mare. The vast majority of landmarks are to be found on the boulevard or in its immediate vicinity. To mention a few : - Union Square - the Palace of Culture - the "Mitropolitan " complex with the Holy "Parascheva" cathedral. - Sfintii Trei Ierarhi monasteri. - City Hall Overall a nice long stroll ... be prepared for several km of walking where the majority of landmarks are free of charge in terms of visiting and the "trail" is marked with signs and that can be interesting since you can have a "romantic" walk with specific stations or a "Jewish" walk with the specific landmarks - so check what would you like and put on a pair of comfortable shoes ... any of the walks is worth doing from my perspective. When you are in Iasi check out the historical center of the city ...

    Don't Miss the Music Boxes!
The traveling art exhibits were OK, but the traditional textiles and other historic exhibitions were really worth the time. Best of all were the halls with music boxes - the traditional types, yes, but also spectacular music players that included not only "player piano" but also "player violins" and other instruments. The lovely staff would occasionally start one of them up, so we could see them in action. They are extremely old and beautiful. A worthwhile exhibit.
