4.0Ji'an Tomb Group(9 reviews) - Three amazing tomb sites with Ji'an city limits Thursday: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Ancient Ruins
Ji'an's ancient Koguryo sites are numerous and a bit confusing, I'll list them below. 1. General's Tomb. 2. Yushun Tomb of the Noble. 3. King's Stelae. 4. Ji'an museum. 5. Wandu Mountain Fortress. 6. Guonei Ancient city walls. 7. Other numerous tumuli around the city. I'm trying to create individual attraction reviews on Trip Advisor for the seven sites above. This review is for the attractions listed 1, 2 and 3 as a single ticket allows entry to all. 1. The General's Tomb is huge, is is staggeringly massive and nearly 2,000 years old. There is also another small tomb on site. This is a must see. It's a bit of a walk from central Ji'an so take a taxi. 2. The Yushun tomb of the noble allows entry inside a single tomb, a second may be open at different times. Inside the tomb the interior was beautifully painted. No photos were allowed, but examples recreations can be seen at Ji'an museum. It's a bit of a walk from central Ji'an so take a taxi. 3. The King's Stelae has one large ruined tumuli, where entrance isn't possible but you can climb on top. There is also a HUGE stelae with inscriptions in an ancient language. Very interesting. It's a bit of a walk from central Ji'an so take a taxi. There is not much English at any of the sights. Make sure you visit Ji'an Museum, the Wandu Fort and take a ride on the Yalu when in Ji'an!See more..
4.5Gaoguli Cultural Tourism Zone(7 reviews) - beautiful area to spend couple of days Thursday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Ancient Ruins
Been in late spring 2013, Ji'an, is a small town in Jilin province about 15 hours away by slow train from Shenyang(thought you have to change train in Tonghua). I read about Ji'an through the Unesco world heritage, and i was impressed because they called "the pyramids of the east". Tempted to go there, i took the long way train and i decide to bring with me my bicycle. The town is situated along the Yalu river, that separate China and North Korea, the landscape is very beautiful, surrounded by low high mountain with fruit tree and wineyards everywhere (not common to see in Asia)You can take a glimpse of the North korean life, but be careful to take pics since there are always chinese soldiers around to check what are you doing (since i m a foreigner). the archeological site is impressive and is spread out around Ji'an with few tombs either outside the town.the tombs remind me more the Aztech pyramids then the Egyptian one. By the way is interesting to see something of a culture, the Kogureyo Kingdom, that rule in this area (Dongbei china, North korea and part of the south) for several century.there are some english explanation, but don't expect to find an english speaking guide. It was also great to stroll along the river, and to talk with local people that seems very freindly. I highly suggest to go to this place if you have couple of days to spend in Dongbei area (you can either make it part of a trip to Changbaishan that isn't very far away)See more..
5.0Wandu Mountain City Fortress(5 reviews) - A brilliant stop! Spent 2-3 hours Historic Sites • Ancient Ruins • Castles • Cemeteries • Mysterious Sites
We visited on recommendation of lonely planet and it was amazing! The snow covered ruins looked very beautiful and suitably dramatic and most of the signs featured Chinese, English, Korean, Russian, and Japanese. The explanations were simple and there was lots to see and walk around. The minus 0°C temperatures didn't affect our enjoyment at all and whilst we may have missed some of the slight details due to the snow the entire area was gorgeous. Be careful of the paths though, as snowfall in the North is pretty heavy and can obscure the paths borders. All in all a brilliant place to walk around and explore for an hour and a half to a few hours depending on interest levels!See more..
3.0Guonei City(2 reviews) - Walk the restored city walls - Good Ancient Ruins
Walking an entire circuit of the old Guonei City walls takes just over one hours. I passed no other foreigners/westerners, but a few groups of Koreans who were curious to see me. The walls are heavily restored in parts. The best restored part of the walls and most scenic is the corner near the Yalu river then walking north towards Wandu Mountain Fort. The wall passes through interesting urban areas. I was grabbed for photos a few times, asked for photos and conversations attempted. Jia'an is one of my favourite towns in China, definitely one of the most scenic and with so much to see in sights.See more..
See more..
