A brilliant stop!
We visited on recommendation of lonely planet and it was amazing! The snow covered ruins looked very beautiful and suitably dramatic and most of the signs featured Chinese, English, Korean, Russian, and Japanese. The explanations were simple and there was lots to see and walk around. The minus 0°C temperatures didn't affect our enjoyment at all and whilst we may have missed some of the slight details due to the snow the entire area was gorgeous. Be careful of the paths though, as snowfall in the North is pretty heavy and can obscure the paths borders. All in all a brilliant place to walk around and explore for an hour and a half to a few hours depending on interest levels!

UNESCO listed Wandu Ancient Koguryo Mountain Fort - Ji'an's top site
The Koguryo sites of Ji'an are amazing, and so unknown to Western tourists. Korean tour groups are regularly seen on pilgrimage to the ancient sites in Ji'an. Wandu mountain fort is amazing. Though it is currently being heavily restored. The site features a large walled city climbing around steep mountains, and a large cemetery on the plains below. During my visit in August 2015 much of the city walls were closed, but I just climbed over barriers pretending to be lost. It looks like a path is being created to a high up view point that unfortunately wasn't finished at the time of the visit. To see artefacts found at Wandu Fort, visit Ji'an's excellent museum (no photos allowed). To get to Wandu, a taxi will cost 10 - 20 RMB, it's very close to Ji'an centre so you could walk back in less than one hour.
