TongTien (note the winery still uses the old Wade Giles transliteration system identifying its age as pre 1949). The winery and wine museum is a cellar, sales area and wine exhibit space. It's sort of modeled on western style winery tours, but with Chinese characteristics. The actual vineyards are further south at Yalu River，so what you're visiting is the production winery and a huge wine cellar. Top tip. Your probably in Tonghua on business, and the winery has an amazing wine tasting room in the cellar. It's a long table style and can seat 30 to 40 for an impressive wine tasting paired with local nuts. This feature was very impressive. What wines. There are two famous local wines. A white ice wine, sweet and tacky as it should be. More grape flavor than Canadian ice wine but nice. Then they have a wide range of red using 'mountain grapes'. (山葡萄）These are wild small grapes that are current like. The Reds are dry and dark. They make a range fro 40 rmb a bottle through to 800 rmb a bottle. Also. An interesting grape baijiu 葡萄白酒。very unusual and around 38 degrees alcohol. I prefer the traditional style myself. The winery shop has all the products for sale. Worth a visit. And about 30 minute drive from downtown Tonghua. If you make the trip, another 15 minutes in the same road takes you to 1616 DaChuanYuan baijiu factory and museum. Also recommended.See more..
