It’s a location to take your time with, to wander and ponder as you expolore the statues. It’s worth going first thing before the various coach tours unload and try and avoid those desperate to get photos on a 15min whistle stop tour. It’s also a great park to wander away from the statues and enjoy some quiet in the city and don’t miss the views over to Holmenkollen. We decided to stop over in Geilo on our way to Bergen from Oslo and spend two nights. We did not rent a car, but rather walked to the summer park from the hotel and then took the ski lift up the mountain and went hiking. There are miles of hiking trails at the top, and they are incredibly beautiful - amazing scenery and fauna. We then walked down the mountain and went in to town to have lunch - in all about 10 miles. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would recommend this to folks who are in good shape. You can also take the ski lift down. There were families on the mountain who had rented mountain bikes and took them up the mountain. It looked like a blast and if we had time we would have done that too. We also plan to walk around the lake (2 hours) which is at the foot of the park. It is worth stopping in Geilo if you want to experience the mountain towns.See more..
