Blaafarvevaerket, or the Royal Cobalt Works of Modum was established in 1773 for the extraction of cobalt ore from the local mines in the surrounding hills. Today Blaafarvevaerket is one of Norways best known tourist attractions offering historical insight into the extraction and production of cobalt, guided tours of the mines and surrounding area and annual art exhibitions. Other attractions at the museum are the Theodor Kittelsen museum. The artist that created the troll as we know it! On our recent holiday to Eidsvoll we cycled to the Emerald mine on a sunny Saturday and spend a good few hours there. We enjoyed the walk around the mines and then sat at the waters edge for hours looking for Emeralds with a picnic. We managed to find quite a few! An experience that wont be forgotten. The lady who greeted us was also very helpful and gave told us lots of interesting information about the different stones and how to find them.See more..
