Enjoyable a peaceful Kawaguchi lake

Not too far from Tokyo, you can reach this lake by public transport such as bus or train. If you want to be more flexible, I recommend going there by bus from Shinjuku bus terminal (in front of Shinjuku station). It takes about 2 and half hours and costs around JPY 2,000. Several cafes can be found around the lake and you can enjoy the peaceful and beautiful scenery while enjoying a cup of coffee or a piece of cake. You can also enjoy the view of mount Fuji from certain part of this lake. However, it is not on the side you can see mount Fuji, it is still enjoyable. One day trip is enough if you only want to enjoy the lake, but seems too short if you want to enjoy Yamanashi prefecture.

Good viewing spot of Mt Fuji
You need a bit of luck weather wise to actually see mt Fuji. We chose to go in winter specifically to avoid crowds. We took a 2 hrs bus from Shinjuku early in the morning so we would reach kawaguchiko station at about 8am which is when the tourist bus starts operation. The red line bus will go around the lake. Most people would drop off at the ropeway (stop 9) or Oishi park ( last stop) so we decided to drop off at stop 18 Nagasaki park. We got a clear view of Mt Fuji and the lake. What a magnificent view!! After taking tons of pictures, we walked to Oishi park and bought souvenirs and a grape flavored soft serve. This was when the clouds rolled over the mountain and we decided against going to the ropeway. So we went back to station and took a direct bus to Gotemba premium outlets. I’m glad we did that because it started raining in the afternoon.

You'll enjoy it
You want your Mt. Fuji and lake shot? This place is it...if she decides to show herself, of course. Depending on the day and time you visit there may be clouds covering the top of Mt. Fuji, but if you catch it on the right time you want to be here. There are some a few restaurants in the area where you can grab a bite to eat and then stroll around the lake.
