A magnificent landmark with expansive grounds
There are a few entrances to the castle, but the main one is across the pedestrian bridge from Kenrokuen. Come here if you want to enter the castle or just walk around and stretch your legs. It's a great space for kids--they can run around the grounds (even on the grass) unbothered. Especially good for toddlers who may need to burn some energy before you go into a restaurant. ;) There is no admission fee to walk around, but you need a ticket to enter the storehouse. 310 for adults and 310 for kids under 18. There is a garden where some events are held each year. If you're lucky enough to visit during such as a time, I highly recommend it. Some events include live music at night or night illuminations.

You Can't Come to Kanazawa and Not See the Castle
Besides the gardens, I would say Kanazawa Castle is the second most popular attraction here. The castle grounds are huge and deserve a few hours of exploring. There is some excavations going on which is pretty interesting. I paid for the entrance and felt the museum was worth it. This castle is obviously newer and has been rebuilt but the museum has great displays on the architecture and craftsmanship of the castle. I'd recommend visiting at night because the castle is lit up, makes for great photos!
