Truly magical--just remember, size isn't everything!
Don't pay money for a trip here...just show up any time (preferably after dark) and wait til the show starts. If you go up the escalator and park yourself near the top, you'll have a great view of the show and still be able to hear the music. If you happen to be there when they perform Freddie Mercury singing Barcelona with Montserrat Caballé, you will never forget it. You can go to the You-T place to hear that particular piece of music, but hearing it in sync with the fountain "choreography" is absolutely magical! Yes, there are many larger fountains (Dubai, Las Vegas, etc.)...I've been to several and they are very cool, but this one truly is unique.

    Fabulous! Get there early.
If there is a finer way to listen to Barcelona by Freddy Mercury and Montserrat Caballe, I don’t think anyone has found it yet. The whole watery son-et-lumiere is a fantastic spectacle, and it’s completely free. To get the best out of it, first off, get there early – at least one hour before – so that you can try to get a spot on the two tiers of steps running down to the main circular fountain area. We didn’t and we stood instead at top of the steps. Still a great view, but not as comfy. There were people on every step and wall and piece of grass leading up from the fountain. There were also folks on the footbridge over the road, which I think probably gave the best view, since those spectators would have seen the display against the backdrop of the steps and other fountains rising up to the domed splendour of the art museum at the very top of the hill. But wherever you sit or stand, it’s a treat. The show starts with Freddy and Monserrat’s perfect duet celebrating the city you’re standing in, as the fountain dances to their music with a colourful display of water art that is astonishing and delightful. A medley of cheesy and nostalgic ‘80s music follows for the next hour. It’s simply brilliant and not to missed if you are in Barcelona on an evening when the display is on. They don’t do it every night any more (allegedly for environmental reasons – which is not to be sniffed at because it probably does use a lot of energy) but they have an excellent website where you can check times and dates.
