Casa Milà - La Pedrera, Catalonia, Spain

4.5 (23.6k reviews) Monday: 9:00 AM - 11:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Price Range: from $26.77 Ranking #7 in Catalonia Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings

Entry fees quite a lot so we didnt go inside and just viewed from the street.

Casa Mila, popularly known as La Pedrera, is a most unusual building, constructed between 1906 and 1912 by the architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926) and declared UNESCO World Heritage in 1984. Today it is the headquarters of Fundacio Catalunya La Pedrera and houses a cultural centre that is a reference point in Barcelona for the range of activities it organises and the different spaces for exhibitions and other public uses it contains. A visit to La Pedrera, landmark building and container, gives us a better understanding and appreciation of architecture and transports us to the period when Antoni Gaudi lived.

    Great Gaudi creation to visit
This is another one of Antonio Gaudi's masterpieces. It is located on a corner that is not exactly too noticeable. From the outside, it appears like another apartment building. It was great to be able to tour the place on our own. Our entrance ticket did not include a headset so we did a self guided tour from an assigned advance time via online. They promptly let us enter once we presented our valid La Pedrera Premium (go anytime) tickets for the day. La Pedrera is a nice furnished apartment and you follow the numbers to continue your self tour of this apartment. The roof top is a must see as the view of La Sagrada Familia and the ongoing construction can be easily viewed. Also, there are unusual shaped chimneys scattered on the roof top that somehow look similar to witches. There are a lot of odd shaped ventilator ducts scattered on the roof also. A good view of the inside lightwell looking down is nice from the rooftop. Well worth a visit here as it is quite different from Casa Battlo.

We only viewed this from the street as we did with Casa Battlo as the entry fees are quite a lot and sometimes you just have to prioritize what you are going to spend your money on. We did a tour of Sagrada Familia and we also paid to get into the Gaudi park as well so we just felt these were too expensive on top. Maybe if we go back to Barcelona we would do these next time.
