It seems incredible that the Roman theatre of Zaragoza was only discovered in the 1970´s having been buried under urban development after the fall of the Roman empire. This museum displays the remains of the theatre and in the museum traces the history of the site under Moorish and then Jewish residential areas. This is all very interesting and although the theatre is in ruins, the museum displays bring it to life.See more..
I have done a separate review of the cathedral. Access to the tapestry museum is part of your cathedral entrance price. The stunning tapestries are worth a visit on their own, and I make the point that touring the cathedral can be quite tiring and I would advise starting with the tapestries. Three rooms of huge hung tapestries. Explanations in English with a free handset.See more..
Extremely interesting and well presented. Our guide Maria spoke excellent English and I would give her 6/5 if I could she made our visit really special with her local family knowledge and enthusiasm, she clearly loves her job! We also had lunch at the cafe which was great value local food and wine.See more..
4.5Museo Pablo Gargallo(305 reviews) - Experience the Life and Works of Gargallo Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM Speciality Museums • Art Museums
Visited this museum based on a recommendation of a friend (whose parents had a picture of Gargallo’s work Gran Profeta adorning her birth announcement). I’m so glad I had the opportunity to see the incredible works of this multi-talented talented artist. In addition to sculptures, there are casts, sketches, prints and cardboard works. The building itself, Argillo Palace, dates back to the mid-1600’s. The multi-level courtyard with its arched windows and pillars is a highlight. The museum is located in a lovely square in the heart of historic Zaragoza.See more..
Located inside the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a large collection of crystal floats. I’ve never seen floats made entirely of glass before and I must say it was one of the most unique displays I’ve seen. I was the only visitor at the time so my experience was quite personalized. Upon entering and paying the entrance fee, I watched a short introduction film about the history of the floats and their construction. As I proceeded through the displays, a narrative played and lights illuminated the floats. Stunning! See more..
This was by far the most interesting site we visited. And the staff were so friendly and helpful. You can buy a ticket to the four major Roman sites, all within a small area easy to do in a day. And for over 65s the ticket is free! This key site explains a lot of the Roman history of Zaragoza with much information in English and French, as well as Spanish. Very accessible and child friendly. The main archeological exhibit here are the sewers and water supply to the Roman town. Quite remarkable.See more..
4.5Museo del Fuego y de los Bomberos(204 reviews) - Nice little museum Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums
We visited whilst in the city to have a break from the historic monuments around. We were pleasantly surprised. We were first met by a retired fireman who took us to a cinema room and showed us some videos of firefighters in Aragon (in Spanish however they are easy to interpret) we could then roam free around the numerous vehicles and artefacts in the museum with plenty of photo opportunities. 90 minutes well spent and well worth the 10 euros for 5 of us.
