My wife booked a trip with Julian in July 2021. I thought “ok another car safari where we just drive each day”. Boy was I surprised! I am a very active person. I like to hike, run and climb. Julian’s mode of safari is to get us right out there. No only did we do some driving, but we also hiked and tracked animals on foot. We were tracking lions, elephants and what ever game tracks we came across. It got very exciting when we successfully track a pride of lions to where they were lying down in the late morning. He is one of the most personable and skilled guides I have seen. His knowledge is very deep on all creatures big and small in Zimbabwe and Africa as a whole. His customer service is second to none. He arranged the best cook for the camp and even thought to bring adult drinks for our evening sundowners in the bush. When we go back we definitely will book with him again. See more..

I was staying at Miombo Safari Camp and by chance a met a wonderful women at Date, running a store with handmade local products. You should definitely go there and check it out as well. Her name is Dorcas. She then introduced me to Hwange Horseback safaris and I just walked over and asked for a ride to be organized. They were very accommodating. I did not even have any gear / outfit with me and they immediately helped with chaps and helmet. I had a truly wonderful ride and enjoyed it a lot. I will definitely come back some day for a more extensive experience. Presently they are also building a new camp. I am sure it will be a great experience to stay there and go on more extensive horseback tracks with them! See more..

We used Wild Horizons our first night for a Zambezi River dinner cruise. This was a great experience and the staff was welcoming, provided great drinks and food. We saw our first African animals on the cruise including Elephants and Hippos. The only downside was once the sun went down it got pretty chilly in the wind...but this was winter in Africa so to a certain extent to be expected. On a side noteBill, our transport driver from the lodge to the cruise managed to set us up with a side day trip to Hwange Park when we could find no other way to get there. Just an example of how helpful the staff was....and this side trip even though long (2.5 hours drive each way) managed to get us our first views of Lions and Leopards, filling out our Big 5 before we even got to Kruger Park! We stayed at the lodge one night. It was fairly expensive for the off season and considering they have 100 rooms and only had guests in three rooms (we had two rooms). The rooms were okay. The restaurant was great and had a catch of the day game meat. I had Eland and our driver had a t-bone steak that was very good. After the drive we had breakfast and it was very good. The service was outstanding. The other guests were two Chinese men who were very demanding and rude to the servers. We believed the servers went above and beyond expectations showing them kindness. One of the problems we had with the lodge's game drive into the park was that those two chinamen were on the same drive and they would not listen to the driver and almost caused a dangerous situation with an elephant. They talked all the time scaring game, and whistled continually at animals when the driver requested that they not do that... Our game driver guide handled there rude chinese men well. See more..

I had an afternoon visit, from 4 till about 6.30, just after sunset. It was not the best time of year, being around teh end of the rainy season meant there were other waterholes - apparently in the dry season this is one of teh few with water (it is pumped), so attracts a lot more wildlife. Nevertheless I had a close up view of warthogs, impala, kudu, several different types of stork, guinea fowl, egret, a kingfisher, and other birds too numerous to remember, Also a crocodile came out of the warpter just 20 feet away. A guide /tracker sat with me, knowledgeable about all the animals and birds, spotting things instantly and pointing them out . I had wondered if a couple of hours would be too long with just me and him, given the relative paucity of animals, but it wasn’t - scarcely a couple of minutes would pass before he pointed out something else.
