The island is a very small, non-touristy island on the sea way to Phu Quoc from Rach Gia - Kien Giang. Beaches are queit, clean and so beautiful with coconut palm & giant rocks everywhere. Locals are calm and absolutely friendly. You must try sea foods there, it's fresh and not very expensive compared to other beaches in Vietnam. I thought it a bit bizarre at first but after talking with Sĩ, I guess using them brings the history and reality of what happened here to life (so to speak) and makes it more educational. Anyway the bottom line: it was a horrible place where people did horrible things to other people - insanity had found its way to this little corner of the world. Maybe some more museum quality displays and information panels would be a bit more deferential. Whatever the case , I think this is my 6th or 7th place in Vietnam where I visited a prison. I never visited one in Japan, Thailand, Korea or any other country I've ever been to. Man, these people have suffered. See more..

If you are visiting a pepper farm in the north, this is a good stop for lunch. We were recommended to eat at Nha Be Thu Bao Good selection of seafood which was priced attractively. No English was spoken, And our driver helped us with the food ordering. The views were great, over the water, and looking at the distant peaks of Cambodia. Water park was the highlight of the vacation according to our kids (age 10 & 13). The cable car was cool but if you’re afraid of heights it is a nerve biting experience. The water park opened only two months ago so everything was modern and clean and no crowds (we might have been lucky as the Coronavirus rumours might have slowed tourism down a bit). A lot of fun water slides and as long as you are taller then 130 cm you can go on all the slides. Our kids had a blast (and so did we). A lot of life guards on duty and a big area for sunbathing / relaxing between the rides. Water park is just a few min walk from the cable car. Bring a lot of sunscreen and a shirt/ sun shirt to wear on the rides. Payment system (you load cash to a park bracelet) was not perfect but I’m sure they will solve that in some time. And yes, I do agree that the island charm / authenticity of the island disappeared with the heavy investments being made in the cable car / fun park but as a park it was awesome. See more..

First, Nam Du is not really accessible if you don’t speak Vietnamese well. If you go be prepared for only Vietnamese. Second, during COVID19 foreigners are getting extra scrutiny. Third, there are only 2 cars available if you need transportation, otherwise it is scooter. Either you drive yourself or you have a driver and you ride on the back of the scooter. With all that said, if you really want to experience VN and get off the mainstream and tourist path then this place is it. It is beautiful, rustic, and a ton of fun. A local boat can take you to one of the smaller islands where there are beautiful beaches and even more rustic. There is some trash on the beaches but comparable to any beach in Asia.
