  1. 5.0 Museum of Communication History (39 reviews)
    - Interesting free museum
    Speciality Museums
    Museum of Communication History image
This museum does not seem well known, and is not in any of the guide books. I only found it by accident. It is a pity, because it is one of the best in Tashkent and it is free ! It has an array of objects, such as old telephones, stamps, computers, record player, etc. My favorite was a Soviet era "wide screen" television. In the basement there is also a reconstruction of a 1970's post office. You can easily spend an hour browsing. There are not many signs, but a free guide is available at reception, My guide (Zuhra) was very enthusiastic, informative and keen to practice her English. The museum is easy to find - it is just off the main Navio street. You can take the subway to "Alisher Navio" and then cross the road. There is a sign for it between a restaurant and telephone kiosk. 5. 5.0 Zhuravli (1 review)
    - Fallen crane memorial
    Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
    Zhuravli image
The Zhuravli monument is known by locals as the "Crane" monument. It was the best war memorial that we had seen in Uzbekistan. The monument is located at the intersection of Chaykovskogo Street and Navoi Avenue. It depicts a sculpture of a herd of cranes on either side of a columnar structure. They are flying away but leaving a fallen bird behind. This fallen bird sculpture is a short distance away on a base with a star. The inscription on the base reads."I sometimes feel that the soldiers who have not returned from the bloody fields never lied down to earth but turned into white cranes". The words were taken from a poem written by Rasul Gamzatov from Dagestan. Rasul had visited Hiroshima, and was inspired by the story of Sadako Sasaki and her 1,000 paper cranes. He wrote a poem about the cranes. A famous singer, Mark Bernes, who was dying of cancer (similar to Sadako) was so impressed by the poem, to which he could relate, that he performed it in 1969, shortly before his death. it was his last song. Mark was well known for songs related to WW2 and this song became his most famous. This monument was opened in 1972, a few years after the song was first performed. We thought that it was great that this beautiful memorial remained when so many other Soviet era memorials had been relocated or destroyed. We had heard that many of these monuments were installed in the Soviet Union, but it was the first time that we had seen one. A nearby attraction is the Church of St George, which is 1.5 km south on Navoi Avenue. See more..
  6. 5.0 Gulkamskiye Gorges (1 review)
    - незабываемое впечатление.
Spent More than 3 hours Mountains
See more..
  7. 4.5 Metro Taschkent (1.322 reviews)
    - Some Great Stations
    Architectural Buildings
    Metro Taschkent image
There are some really good stations on the Tashkent Metro. Someone had written an article on what he viewed as the best 13 and I covered about 10 of them in about 2 hours. The train doors close quickly so you'll need to get off, take your pictures and wait for the next train which shouldn't be more than 5 minutes. For the flat fee of So'm 1,400 you can travel on the system as long as you want as long as you don't exit a station. See more..

    - Breathtaking views.
Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Ski & Snowboard Areas
    Chimgon image
Chimgan mountain is around 2 hrs drive from the Uzbek capital, Tashkent. Should take the cable car upto the hills if you are not scared of heights. View is breathtaking but nothing much to do up in the mountain. You can finish the visit within 1-2 hours. Cable car costs UZS 15,000 per head as of Sep.2019. If you are not willing to take cable car, you can go by quad bikes or on horseback. ( I am unaware of prices) Cable car means open two seats and it is always moving. This won't be much advisable for elderly visitors,it is not unsafe though! After Chimgan, it is a must to visit Chorvoq reservoir where you can find a large blue water reservoir where you can go on a boat trip and relax around. (pics are added here) See more..
  11. 4.5 Charvak Reservoir (247 reviews)
    - Nice place to chill out!
    Bodies of Water
    Charvak Reservoir image
Charvak is a good place to visit on a hot day in Tashkent. It is less than 2 hours by car, from Tashkent. There are a few activities taking place on the water, but the beaches are not sandy, or very clean. The air is however clean and fresh. A bit of trecking can be made around the lake. A good hotel where to stay there is Charos, but you need a car from there to the beach. I recommend it as a day trip, from Tashkent. See more..

    - Awesome memorial with horrible history !!
    Spent 1-2 hours History Museums
State Museum "In Memory of the Victims of Repression" image
It is located in the heart of Tashkent next to TV tower. The landscape with canal and surrounding is so beautiful and eye pleasing that one can spend almost an entire day here. It is very important to visit this magnificent memorial with a guide who can explain you that behind this lies one of the worst history of mankind. During the rule of Russians from 19th century till mid fifties tens of thousands of innocent local Uzbekistanis were tortured and murdered here in the prison. Their only fault was that they defied the ruthless Russians. When we reached here around 12 noon the museum was closed but at our request the director not only opened the door but he personally took 20 of us inside and showed us each and everything and tried his best to explain us in his broken English. Thanks a lot Sir. A beautiful place not to missed when in Tashkent... See more..

    - My favorite place in Tashkent
Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites
    Ensemble Hazrati Imam image
Probably my favorite place in Tashkent. Great mix of architecture, history, and regular tourism. First, there are a lot of lovely buildings to explore, including a quite and pleasant mosque. First time I was not asked to wear a scarf. Then there is a small museum which has one of the oldest Qurans, as well as a few other exhibits. This is a place of worship, so you need to wear one of the robes at the entrance as a woman and act respectfully. No photos can be taken of the book. There is a fee to enter. Also, plenty of souvenir stalls, got some nice earrings. See more..

  20. 4.5 World War II Memorial (44 reviews)
    - Moving and impressive
    Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
    World War II Memorial image
Living in Russia at the time I went to Uzbekistan, I was very much used to seeing World War II memorials in any place I went to - but, even so, I found this one particularly moving and impressive. Its setting in a peaceful and well cared for park, coupled with the beautifully designed structures surrounding the eternal flame, make for a very moving place of contemplation and remembrance. I’d recommend visiting the park (which joins Independence Square) in general, but also simply in order to see this memorial. See more..

Mountains • Nature & Wildlife Areas
See more..

    Amir Timur Museum image
Almost missed it, entered it only because it was in the way. But then I was fascinated by the decorations and rich history. You can explore b yourself, but I recommend a guide or at least the nazzar app to get more information. I wish the history of this part of the world was popularized more, there is a lot to explore. Overall a good museum experience, plenty of information in English as well. See more..

  28. 4.0 Railway Museum (133 reviews)
    - A fantastic collection of old trains
Friday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Speciality Museums
    Railway Museum image
This open-air museum is home to an impressive collection of old trains, with some wonderful examples of old Russian and Soviet steam engines. You can climb up on most of them and into the driver's cab, though watch out for holes in the floor. Unfortunately there is no signing to tell you anything about them, though they do have a date of manufacture. There is supposed to be a carriage housing a display about the trains and the history of rail in the region, but it was closed when I visited. I'm no train buff, but it was well worth a visit. The museum is only a couple of minutes' walk from the central station in Tashkent. See more..
