According to the locals, it is the main and most important mosque in the city of Qarshi. Its interior, however, is not the most beautiful in comparison with some other mosques in Qarshi. See more..
  2. 4.0 The Palace Complex of Ak-Saray (157 reviews)
    - The remaining ruins which are worth your visit!

The Palace Complex of Ak-Saray image
Shahrisabz is on the way from Samarkand to Qarshi and certainly worth a visit, even if for half a day. Besides admiring the Palace Complex of Ak-Saray and the statue of Amir Temur, pay a visit to the museum devoted to Amir Temur's life and his achievements. No regrets guaranteed. See more..
  3. 4.0 Dorut Tilovat (77 reviews)
    - Highlight of Shakhrisabz

    Dorut Tilovat image
Overall, we were very disappointed with Shakhrisabz, which was overly landscaped and commercialized. The best of the sights we saw in town was Dorut Tilovat, a burial complex for Timurlane's forebears. It was only here that we got a real sense of this as a medieval town and not a city park with paper mache rocks. The delights of this place are familiar ones to those on the Silk Road: turquoise tiles, intricate portals, leafy courtyards and solemn marble tombs. However, this site has been sensitively restored and it is more of a tranquil experience. Entrance costs 7,000 som for foreigners. See more..

Like many of the Amir Timur statues throughout Uzbekistan, this one is very popular with locals, and particularly wedding parties. See more..

You know he's not here. Does it matter ? He wanted to be here, but things worked out differently, as they often do. More than likely, you've already visited his real mausoleum in Samarkand, but you still came here, didn't you. It's the thought that counts. See more..

  7. 4.0 Kitab Pass (1 review)
    - Scenic pass, unfortunately with episodes of disfigurement by concrete
Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Kitab Pass image
The Kitab pass (about 1600 mts) crosses the mountainous region called Aman Kutan (branch of the huge range of the Hissar Mountains), and currently allows the transit of these mountains to the shortest route between Samarkand and Shakrisabz, i.e. between the historical regions of Sogdiana and Bactria. As such, the road (although perhaps not exactly on the current route and pass) has been traveled over the centuries by many travellers, among whom Alexander the Great and - obviously - Tamerlane stand out. The series of granite-looking rocks (I don't know if they are actually granite) that pops up here and there is peculiar to the region. The rocks have a rounded appearance, very nice to look at. Unfortunately, just south of the pass, we have been able to see how one of the most beautiful sites along the road, perhaps the most beautiful, has been irreparably scarred by a well-known restaurant, which built a massive and very ugly concrete building, below which some terraces (see my photo) allow restaurant customers to enjoy the summer coolness almost in contact with the water. I don't think I'm exaggerating if I say that I have never seen such a blatant "blasphemy" against the natural environment in my travels. See more..
  8. 3.5 Dor Us-Siyodat (52 reviews)

I guess the great Timur must have been heartbroken when his eldest and favorite son Jehangir died at 22, so he built him a huge mausoleum. Clearly, he intended it to be a dynastic necropolis, because he included a crypt for himself. Things didn't work out and now there's not very much left. After you've been spoiled with turquoise domes and gold-leaf ceilings, this may be disappointing. Still, you're in Shahrisabz, the hometown of The Great Man, so pay your respects. See more..
