    Humiston Park image
My wife and I visited Humiston Park with my service dog and really enjoyed the clean, safe environment. I was able to speak at length to one of the lifeguards about a sunken ship located 450' off shore. He was very knowledgeable and informative. Having been on the beach all day at our resort, we really enjoyed the shaded seating area located at the Lifeguard station. It allowed us to take in the beautiful view, while observing many families enjoying mother natures awesome gift, and cooling off with the lovely ocean breeze. Very friendly staff and great environment for kids via a nice playground that is also available should the kids grow tired of the ocean.( If that were possible) See more..

    Wabasso Beach Park image
One of the first places we stopped. The surf was quiet when we were there with only a few beach goers. A couple of jet skis were plying the water and there wasn't much swimming. We were impressed by the tranquility of the area. Later we were told this is a good place for surfing in the winter when the waves come in., There was lots of parking and a great experience for us. Appears to be a great spot to watch the sunrise. See more..
  8. 4.5 Jaycee Park (65 reviews)

    Jaycee Park image
We come to Jaycee Park area every 2 months or so for the beach. It has faucets outside, to rinse the sand off, and restrooms. Seaside Grill is right there, though we usually go elsewhere. The food is nothing great and pricey but it is convenient. Today, there were lots of kids, families, and couples. People were good about social distancing. The beach was clean. We watched out for man o war, but fortunately, there were none. Plenty of kids and adults out in the ocean. As far as I can tell no one got stung. I found shells, as that’s a favorite activity for me. It’s one of my happy places! See more..

  10. 4.5 Indian River Citrus Museum (51 reviews)
    - Great for what it is!
Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums • History Museums
    Indian River Citrus Museum image
This is a very small museum packed full of interesting stuff. Our hostess (tour guide?) greeted us at the front door & gave us about 15 minutes worth of wonderful local history, general information on citrus worldwide, & information specific to citrus grown in the copyrighted Indian River Citrus area. Then, we were free to wander the remainder of the displays. The layout was simple - just a rectangular room with a center display area - but the displays were such that it didn't feel cramped or overstuffed. We learned a great deal about the area, & were impressed with our guide's knowledge & enthusiasm. There is no admission fee, but there is a donation jar on the "gift shop" counter, & they have various items of interest for sale. (We bought postcards & marmalade!) See more..
  11. 4.5 Golden Sands Park (43 reviews)
    - Hidden Gem of a Beach
Spent More than 3 hours Beaches • Parks
    Golden Sands Park image
We love A1A beaches because there are so many hidden away. We look for the brown signs and turn in. If the parking lot is fairly empty, we park. We're very glad we did when we got to Golden Sands - we were 2 of 10 people spread out there. It was QUIET. All we heard were the Pelicans, terns, sandpipers and the easy- rolling waves. Yes, it was beautiful, peaceful, and a great picnic spot as well. I even fell asleep. We'll definitely be back! See more..

    Hallstrom Farmstead image
Swedish immigrant and horticulturist, Axel Hallstrom, moved from Minnesota to Florida in 1904 for a warmer climate for his sickly wife, and land to grow tropical trees and fruits. He later purchased 100 acres on the "golden ridge," the tropical sand dune that runs along the western side of the Indian River. First he grew pineapples, then citrus fruit. By 1918 his brick three-story home was completed and stands today on five acres of property, bequeathed to the Indian River County Historical Society in 1999 when Axel's only daughter, Ruth, passed away. This beautiful home is filled with the original furnishings and archives from the Hallstrom family. It is open Monday through Friday and the last Saturday of the month from 1-4 pm. Many Swedish holidays are celebrated here including St. Lucia Christmas, Fika Pause, and Axel Name Day. A donation of $5 a person is suggested to help maintain the house and gardens. See more..

    Indian River County wetlands image
I spent a very enjoyable early morning here, bird-watching. I would have liked to have spent a second morning too as I did not have time to get to the lookouts over the marsh! I had nearly 30 bird species, including 5 species of duck, most of the herons & egrets, Wilson's Snipe, Bald-headed Eagle, Sand Crane, Wood Stork etc. No rails or soars on this trip unfortunately ....
