We brought kids, parents and grandparents and everyone loved it. Loved having a hands on experience with some of the artifacts and the personal explanations and discussions with the knowledgeable staff. Would absolutely recommend this to others and the $2 admission makes this a very affordable family excursion. See more..
  4. 4.5 Round Island Beach Park (341 reviews)
    - Best Beach & Amazing Manatee Viewing
    Beaches • Parks
    Round Island Beach Park image
Forget all the other state parks and beaches. This one by far was our favorite. The lagoon for viewing manatees on the west side and shade picnic areas with shower/ rinsing stations on the east side. By far the cleanest water and beach of all the ones we visited in the area. Just beware of chiggers under trees/ grassy areas and I don't recommend braving the wooded walking trails due to mosquitoes in the summer. The only exception was the manager bridge and connecting short trail to the larger lagoon which was fine. See more..
  5. 4.5 Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge (254 reviews)
    - Beautiful, uncrowded and perfect for a hike.
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge image
I keep coming back here because I really enjoy the serenity away from the fast pace of hectic Florida. Here is true Florida, how it once was. Come to enjoy a walk on the trails, see the large variety of birds often up close. Great for nature photographers like myself. What you see here really depends on the time of day, the current weather or the season of the year. I highly recommend early morning after sunrise. In my experience, that is when you will see the most wildlife activity. Joe's lookout is the probably the best point for this. Afternoons it can be pretty quiet and not many birds. Wonderful, wonderful place. See more..
  6. 4.0 Vero Beach Outlets (199 reviews)
    - I FINALLY VISITED!!!!
    Factory Outlets
    Vero Beach Outlets image
After years of driving past the outlets in Vero, I finally got to visit. There are too many stores to visit in a couple of hours but we visited some highlights: Coach, Restoration Hardware, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and the great popcorn stand near the restrooms. Another visit is in order. There is ample parking. See more..
  7. 4.5 Environmental Learning Center (152 reviews)
    - A hidden gem
Saturday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Environmental Learning Center image
I don’t know why we haven’t visited this place sooner. It’s a wealth of knowledge and entertainment for the adults and the kids. We came with a 13yo and 4yo and both equally enjoyed it. The touch tank and all the hands on exhibits were very well thought out and executed. The boardwalk trails are well marked and I would say accessible to all abilities. We will for sure be returning. See more..
  8. 4.5 South Beach Park (103 reviews)
    - Really nice first impression
Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water • Beaches • Parks
    South Beach Park image
Our family is moving to Vero Beach next year and, while we were all out house-hunting, we stopped briefly to walk the beach at this beautiful Atlantic Ocean location. It was so perfect: white sand, turquoise surf, as far as the eye can see. The walk from the parking lot (which is free but we do not know the parking restrictions (i.e. how many hours before a fine kicks in) and so we all ventured forth. Some really wonderful land tortoises were serenely (as possible amidst the people) munching grass near the parking area and then we began the short boardwalk-bridge walk through vegetation to the beach. Pure eye candy! Although there is supposed to be a place to rent umbrellas and chairs, we did not see that business and would do more research to locate it, when the time comes to spend hours there. South Beach rates high on our list of pristine beaches. See more..
  9. 4.5 Humiston Park (96 reviews)
    - Beautiful family friendly park on the beach!
Spent More than 3 hours Parks
    Humiston Park image
My wife and I visited Humiston Park with my service dog and really enjoyed the clean, safe environment. I was able to speak at length to one of the lifeguards about a sunken ship located 450' off shore. He was very knowledgeable and informative. Having been on the beach all day at our resort, we really enjoyed the shaded seating area located at the Lifeguard station. It allowed us to take in the beautiful view, while observing many families enjoying mother natures awesome gift, and cooling off with the lovely ocean breeze. Very friendly staff and great environment for kids via a nice playground that is also available should the kids grow tired of the ocean.( If that were possible) See more..

  12. 4.5 Wabasso Beach Park (66 reviews)
    - A Wonderful Place to Enjoy the Atlantic
    Spent < 1 hour Piers & Boardwalks • Beaches
    Wabasso Beach Park image
One of the first places we stopped. The surf was quiet when we were there with only a few beach goers. A couple of jet skis were plying the water and there wasn't much swimming. We were impressed by the tranquility of the area. Later we were told this is a good place for surfing in the winter when the waves come in., There was lots of parking and a great experience for us. Appears to be a great spot to watch the sunrise. See more..
  13. 4.5 Jaycee Park (65 reviews)
    - Regulars here
    Parks
    Jaycee Park image
We come to Jaycee Park area every 2 months or so for the beach. It has faucets outside, to rinse the sand off, and restrooms. Seaside Grill is right there, though we usually go elsewhere. The food is nothing great and pricey but it is convenient. Today, there were lots of kids, families, and couples. People were good about social distancing. The beach was clean. We watched out for man o war, but fortunately, there were none. Plenty of kids and adults out in the ocean. As far as I can tell no one got stung. I found shells, as that’s a favorite activity for me. It’s one of my happy places! See more..

Ocean Drive is a lovely upscale district… sidewalks, parking….nice place to stroll. Refreshing to see most visitors dressed in their summer best as well. See more..
  15. 4.5 Indian River Citrus Museum (51 reviews)
    - Great for what it is!
Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums • History Museums
    Indian River Citrus Museum image
This is a very small museum packed full of interesting stuff. Our hostess (tour guide?) greeted us at the front door & gave us about 15 minutes worth of wonderful local history, general information on citrus worldwide, & information specific to citrus grown in the copyrighted Indian River Citrus area. Then, we were free to wander the remainder of the displays. The layout was simple - just a rectangular room with a center display area - but the displays were such that it didn't feel cramped or overstuffed. We learned a great deal about the area, & were impressed with our guide's knowledge & enthusiasm. There is no admission fee, but there is a donation jar on the "gift shop" counter, & they have various items of interest for sale. (We bought postcards & marmalade!) See more..
  16. 4.5 Golden Sands Park (43 reviews)
    - Hidden Gem of a Beach
Spent More than 3 hours Beaches • Parks
    Golden Sands Park image
We love A1A beaches because there are so many hidden away. We look for the brown signs and turn in. If the parking lot is fairly empty, we park. We're very glad we did when we got to Golden Sands - we were 2 of 10 people spread out there. It was QUIET. All we heard were the Pelicans, terns, sandpipers and the easy- rolling waves. Yes, it was beautiful, peaceful, and a great picnic spot as well. I even fell asleep. We'll definitely be back! See more..
  17. 4.5 Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge (41 reviews)
    - Wrong Address
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge image
Do not use 20th street address shown here. It takes you to park service office blog (we know because that's where we ended up). Go to website for Carr Reserve. It is on A1A near beaches, not in downtown area where 20th street is. See more..
  18. 4.0 Vero Beach Farmer's Market (38 reviews)
    - Always a Happening
    Farmers Markets
    Vero Beach Farmer's Market image
On the beach, mostly around Humiston Park parking lot in Central Beach neighborhood. Good variety of vendors: organic produce, bakery items, specialty coffees and teas, crab cakes, etc. I find the bakery breads and pastries particularly excellent. Opens at 8am and that is the best time to go — less crowded and better choices at stands. Superb people watching, good crowd buzz, and overheards. Very age diverse for Florida. Music alternates between two singer/guitarists that play excellent 70s and 80s standards. Tons of parking available on nearby streets. Always a happening. See more..
  19. 4.0 Vero Beach City Marina (29 reviews)
    - They call it Velcro for a reason!!
    Marinas
    Vero Beach City Marina image
This place is wonderful! My family usually stays here every year on their way down the coast to get to the keys! It's very easy to get stuck here for a few! They have a free bus that picks you up at the marina and will being you any where. Only thing is that the Wi-Fi is not to great. Over all I would highly recommend staying here! See more..

  21. 4.5 Hallstrom Farmstead (25 reviews)
    - Lovely House
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings
    Hallstrom Farmstead image
Swedish immigrant and horticulturist, Axel Hallstrom, moved from Minnesota to Florida in 1904 for a warmer climate for his sickly wife, and land to grow tropical trees and fruits. He later purchased 100 acres on the "golden ridge," the tropical sand dune that runs along the western side of the Indian River. First he grew pineapples, then citrus fruit. By 1918 his brick three-story home was completed and stands today on five acres of property, bequeathed to the Indian River County Historical Society in 1999 when Axel's only daughter, Ruth, passed away. This beautiful home is filled with the original furnishings and archives from the Hallstrom family. It is open Monday through Friday and the last Saturday of the month from 1-4 pm. Many Swedish holidays are celebrated here including St. Lucia Christmas, Fika Pause, and Axel Name Day. A donation of $5 a person is suggested to help maintain the house and gardens. See more..

    Indian River County wetlands image
I spent a very enjoyable early morning here, bird-watching. I would have liked to have spent a second morning too as I did not have time to get to the lookouts over the marsh! I had nearly 30 bird species, including 5 species of duck, most of the herons & egrets, Wilson's Snipe, Bald-headed Eagle, Sand Crane, Wood Stork etc. No rails or soars on this trip unfortunately ....
