Jim was my Uncle, I lived my life in his image and honor. I became an Arson/Fire Cause and Origin Investigator, and some on my Fire Department that knew Jim was my Uncle, started calling me Rockford Jr.. I had to put a stop to that.. Fireman !!!! Although I have never been to Oklahoma, I'm retired now, I'm going to make it point. and I appreciate the comments about Jim, there's only One Maverick, there' only One Rockford See more..

  3. 5.0 Ruby Grant Park And Playground (1 review)
    - Finally a great park for the rest of us!
    Parks
This park has great facilities for people with diverse interests. First, the playground is awesome! We took our granddaughter here and she had a great time. Clever toys, things to do, and stuff I've never seen before. Some are set up so you can play along with your children. Lots of benches, and even some "mist sprayers" for the hot summer days. The playground is completely fenced in so little ones can't wander off. Second, the park has nice trails for walking/running (not good for bikes or strollers though as most are gravel), and several really nice pavilions for picnics and parties. Third, the park includes a very nice dog park (over by interstate drive) with separate facilities for large and small dogs. My dog really enjoys it...very large area, lots of trees, separate parking lot, etc. Very nice park! See more..

My friends and I enjoyed the adult only evening at the Museum. They had trivia, a scavenger hunt, food, and painting. It was a fun time, and the 3 hours of the program went by pretty quickly. If any time you see this Museum having another event like this, I recommend you try it, especially if it's for you. See more..

    Oklahoma Memorial Stadium image
Went to OU-Baylor during the COVID pandemic. OU did a fantastic job spacing seats. We were very comfortable with the crowd level at the game. Very enjoyable evening. Would have liked to see the OU band and all the pageantry of the typical game day experience, but happy to just get the chance to see any OU football during COVID. See more..
  7. 4.5 Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art (169 reviews)
    - Art Galore
Sunday: 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM Art Museums
Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art image
I regularly travel down to Norman to experience this museum due to the incredible works you can see. There are few places in Oklahoma where you will see Monet’s beside Van Gogh. This and a WHOLE bunch more await you. This was the first place I ever saw a war depiction painting by Norman Rockwell and it’s moving! Student art exhibits are outstanding. There are mixtures of classical art with western art and native collections. Truly a phenomenal collection right here in the middle of Oklahoma! The gallery changes every few months so each trip is a new experience. See more..
  8. 4.5 National Weather Center (128 reviews)
    - Stunning Facility, Especially for Weather Geeks
    Educational sites
    National Weather Center image
The National Weather Center is pretty cool. I had a tour there and got to see the doppler on wheels, the SPC, and the observation deck on the top floor. They have a cafe inside though we didn't eat there. On a nice day there are a lot of solid outdoor photo ops. I might be a bit biased because I'm a prospective meteorology student at OU, but this place is really nice. Even if you are just a casual visitor and aren't really into meteorology, I would still recommend checking it out as the tour was completely free and wasn't overly technical or scientific. See more..

Enjoyed chatting with the owner while we had 5 free tastings. Found a few sweet wines I liked. I’m just not a fan of tasting in the little plastic cups. I love the outdoor space that is kid friendly! We will return when in the area! See more..

  15. 4.5 George Miksch Sutton Urban Wilderness Park (4 reviews)
    - Tour de Prairie.
Parks • Jogging Paths & Tracks
An urban wilderness walled in by cedar trees and Hedge-apple trees. It is really neat. You get an idea what Norman looked like before the Land Run. (Grassy and bumpy Haha) the trails wonder around a pond. Its a hole 160 ac quart section but the trails only cover a portion of that. No camping or bikes. Lots of wildlife if you know where, and what to look for. It has grasslands, wetlands, and woods. See more..

The Lloyd Noble Center was an excellent venue to take in a basketball game. I watched the Oklahoma Sooners women's team defeat the TCU Horned Frogs. The facility was easy to access and the ticketing staff was a pleasure to interact with coming into the stadium. The seating is comfortable and the view of the court was just fine. The murials of past Oklahoma basketball and gymnastics team on the upper concourse was fascinating and presented very well. See more..

  21. 4.0 S & J Marketplace (1 review)
    - Probably the best antique shop in Norman
Spent < 1 hour Antique Shops
    S & J Marketplace image
S & J is a fairly large antique mall in Norman. It is extremely well organized but the prices are high compared to antique stores in nearby OKC. They do have the best and most completely categorized collections of vintage artwork and advertising that I have ever seen. If this is your interest this shop is a must see! One of the pictures I submitted shows the artwork collection. The shop is clean, well decorated and has a good variety. The main drawback when we were there was that the man running the shop seemed totally disinterested in us even when I said hello. Different vendors do have sales going and you can often find a bargain there. Nice little place. A little more friendly and they would have gotten a 5. See more..
  22. 4.0 Circa. (1 review)
    - Interesting shop specializing in boutique, artisan, upcycled, and handmade items
Spent < 1 hour Antique Shops
    Circa. image
A decent selection of antiques focused on decorator and chalk painted items. They even offer classes in how to paint your own. A number of offbeat and interesting items like a vintage TV with an aquarium for a screen, and computer keys recycled as fridge magnets. My wife found a fall themed ceramic house for her collection. A very unusual and eclectic collection. See more..

    - Beautiful Lake with Great Mountain Bike Trails
    State Parks
    Lake Thunderbird State Park image
Lake Thunderbird State Park has some very hilly mountain bike trails, a nice change from the normally flat terrain of central Oklahoma. While the trails were quite sandy, they are decently taken care of and can easily be handled by both new and experienced mountain-bikers. The trails are accessible to hikers and parking is very easy. A great place to spend the day! See more..
  25. 3.0 Thunderbird Casino (53 reviews)
    - best place to play blackjack
    Sunday: Casinos
    Thunderbird Casino image
this casino is practicing social distancing as I play blackjack and they have put up plexiglass dividers between the players and the dealer. I play double deck blackjack and with them having a 10 dollar minimum table and no ante through the week this is the best place to play in the Norman area. I went out as I have had both of my vaccine shots and went out to play and the dealers were hot! it happens I sat through 3 different dealers but they were all not busting and pulling 4 cards into a 20 or 21 it happens. Anyways the pit boss will always give you a ten dollar comp for table play so it is my favorite place See more..

Spent < 1 hour Antique Shops
    Elusive Antiques image
Small shop off West Main in Norman. At least half the stock is vintage and retro clothing. Prices seem high to me for the items I looked at. If you are looking for costume clothing this would be a great stop. If you are more into antiques the selection is minimal and pricey. See more..
