Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, Oklahoma, United States

Art Galore

I regularly travel down to Norman to experience this museum due to the incredible works you can see. There are few places in Oklahoma where you will see Monet’s beside Van Gogh. This and a WHOLE bunch more await you. This was the first place I ever saw a war depiction painting by Norman Rockwell and it’s moving! Student art exhibits are outstanding. There are mixtures of classical art with western art and native collections. Truly a phenomenal collection right here in the middle of Oklahoma! The gallery changes every few months so each trip is a new experience.

    Always worth the visit
Alway a good time. As out of towners visiting for a second time, I appreciated the changing of exhibits. Donation box is available, but no pressure to contribute. Free parking across the street makes this a true value for the museum crowd.

    Good Free Museum
This is located on the University of Oklahoma campus. There is metered parking in the parking garage across the street. It is a well-laid out museum that has a little bit of everything. I am the most interested in art from ancient to 1900. They have a few good pieces including a Monet, Van Gogh, and Renior. To give it the attention it deserves, you probably want to budget at least an hour and a half. The docents are very helpful if you are looking for a particular area. It is meant to be a museum for adults so it is inadvisable to bring anyone under 10 or so. They will likely be quite bored.
