Not each of the locals has been to the museum, although it’s worth to visit to know more about Makiivka. The expositions devoted to the nature of the area, the history of the city and the development of the Donbass. You will have known a lot of interesting facts. Not many people know the area was a part of the Crimean Khanate to the 18th century when it was captured by Russia and populated mostly by Ukrainians. The city itself was founded in 1892 and named Dmitrievsk after Saint Demetrius. The communists renamed the city to Makiivka which sounds in Ukrainian like a village name, because they disrespected the religion. Because of that strange renaming now a lot of people believe Makiivka is a small town, whilst it’s a big industrial city indeed. Although there’re actually had been a village with such a name in the area before the city was founded.

If you’re already in Makiivka, it’s definitely worth to visit. But neither this nor any other attraction in the city isn’t interesting enough for a special visit to Makiivka because of it. See more..

Этот диковинный памятник посвящён диковинному событию. Может, легенда, а может и правда. В 1921 году документ с подобным текстом был выдан руководством металлургической отрасли самому Ленину как обещание, что выделенные им деньги не будут бездарно про&раны, а завод действительно заработает и даст продукцию. Вексель подписан Иваном Межлауком – тогдашним директором «Югостали». Его судьба трагична. Но это другая тема.
Судьба самого памятника – тоже довольно сложная. Было время, сами догадаетесь какое, когда памятник стал ненужным, его сносили, переносили, хранили в неподобающем месте. Он восстановлен буквально недавно, два года назад, и вновь украшает собой город. See more..

To get here, follow universitetskaia to its end (if you reach the golden ring shopping center--you've gone to far) Trolleybus 7 or 11 should go here, as well as marshrutka 37. You will have to walk over a small bridge to reach the park. Great view of the park and city, In the park, you can pay money for children's rides or boat rentals. There are fountains and pathways through nice rose gardens. You can also find small cafes and restaurants. Don't be surprised if you see Ukrainian wedding parties taking photos during your visit! The monument is a copy of the famous steel palm, forged in 1895 by the Uzovka (ex Donetsk) blacksmith Alexey Mertsalov. The original is kept in the museum of the Mining Institute in Saint Petersburg. In 1900 the palm of Mercalov was exhibited at the World Industrial Exhibition in Paris, in the pavilion of the Novorossiysk Society of Coal, Iron and Rails Production, where A. Mertsalov worked. The pavilion won the Grand Prix award. The author of this monument succeeded in creating a unique image of Donbass that best of all is expressed by the slogan The capability has been proved by the deeds. It is a real image of the labour region, with difficult and often tragic history, that with its own hands forged and forges its fate at all times. Went to the Soledar salt mines with a day tour from Donetsk while we stayed there for the Euro 2012 matches. The salt mines is interesting, the environment is clear (tour book says it is even therapeutic), the stories of salt miners are enchanting for us who have heard only stories about silver mines, coal mines, ... etc. At the depth of 300 meters underground, you will see salt sculptures, chapel, concert hall, ....., and be encouraged to lick the wall as well. We would recommend you not to miss the shopping part. Remember to buy some "ancient black sea" sea (rock?) salt for cooking and bath. We bought a lot as souvenirs and our friends love them so much. But if you don't speak Russian, maybe you should consider joining a day tour from Donetsk. Also, young children under 10 years old are not allowed to enter the salt mines. See more..

I first discovered Kuindzhi's work at the Tretyakovsky gallery in Moscow but knew little about this man. Did you know he used to play chess with Mendeleev? This museum visit was an absolute pleasure because of the following: - the staff are very friendly and appreciate the (few) visitors they get, - the building is in great condition (only 5 years old) and has a pleasant garden at the back, - our tour guide was extremely knowledgable, she shared stories (in Russian) about Kuindzhi's life and work excitedly and explained some of his paintings to us in detail, - the museum has mostly copies but 3 originals of Kuindzhi, find out which ones! - there is a whole second floor with great work by other artists, - there is a whole section of amazingly detailed sketches by Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin, some say even better than his paintings! - there was a very impressive temporary exhibition of paintings done by school children of Kuindzhi's works, - I got to visit the museum with a great friend, who also appreciated the art, - and more...
