-Una antica moschea riccamente decorata.
Friday: 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites
I was there with low expectations but amazed with the richness of the archeological artifacts, ranging from antique coins to the statues of Greek gods and deities. - 4.5 Ali Pasa Cami (5 reviews)
-Calm and peace
Friday: 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites
Opposite Ali Paşa Hamamı lies Ali Paşa Mosque. Its porch opens up to a courtyard with trees and a wooden şadırvan. Moreover there is the türbe of Ali Paşa, which is rather modest inside and outside. Do have a look inside. The mosque is 600 years old. It is the oldest and biggest of Tokat. It is beautiful and impressive inside. I climbed up to the women’s compartment to be alone and to study the details. Mihrab and minbar are not as ornate as in other mosques. The dome is painted with ornaments in several „„storeys“. The entrance/exit is of particular interest. It is built with stones in two colours, beige and grey. When I left, a friendly Turkish man told me to look up to the stalactite-like ornaments. I was very grateful for his advice and pass it on to you. See more..

-Una piccola tomba tra il viale e i palazzi.
Friday: 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Cemeteries
See more..
- 4.5 Gok Medrese (4 reviews)
-Anatolian Selcuk Art
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings
Gök Medrese lies near other important Tokat sights like Taş Han. To get in you must know the man who has got the key. He is also willing to give you some information about the architectural complex, which is going to be renovated sooner or later. It is a pity and a shame that such a beautiful building has been left to decay for such a long time! I wonder what might be dug up by excavations. The entrance is decorated with typical Anatolian Selcuk ornaments, and it lies underground, so to speak, because only the highest step is level to the (modern) ground, i.e. the street. This entrance offers the photographer a lot of motives. The medrese has got two storeys, and it is built around a court with a fountain. It looks rather dilapidated. From the court you can reach the scholars’ small rooms. The paint has come off the walls where they had been whitewashed. However, there are also parts of the court covered with typical Selcuk turquoise tiles, which may remind you of Konya. It is so sad to see what may become of great unique Turkish art (and heritage)! It is high time that restoration be started! Outside it is possible to look at another section of the medrese, or rather: fragments of it. Gök means sky in Turkish. I found that the name of the medrese comes from its turquoise tiles, and that sounded plausible to me: those tiles make you think of the vast blue sky of the steppe where he Turks came from! -Must-see if you're in Tokat
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
Tashan is right in the middle of Tokat, so it's definitely worth checking out if you're in the city. Built between 1626 and 1632, it is said to be one of the largest "hans" in Anatolia. There are lots of shops inside, selling silverware, items made of copper, lots of textile products, and other trinkets. In the courtyard, you can enjoy some Turkish coffee or a cup of tea. The people working there are friendly and nice, unlike the ones in, say, Istanbul's Kapali Carsi where they can get rather pusy. See more..
