  1. 5.0 Grand Mosque (386 reviews)
    - An important and interesting mosque
Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Religious Sites
    Grand Mosque image
The Grand Seljuk Mosque of Diyarbakir is considered to be the fifth holiest site in Islam. It was built in 1091-1092 at the order of Sultan Malik Shah, on the ruins of another mosque, built in the late 600s, during the reign of the second Calif Umar. Subsequently, the mosque was renovated a few times and now is large, nicely decorated, has a large yard and it is a "must" when visiting the most important buildings of the city. See more..
  2. 5.0 Dengbej Evi (19 reviews)
    - A highlight of our visit to Eastern Turkey
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Dengbej Evi image
Whilst we were staying in Diyarbakir our guide arranged a visit to Dengbêj House for us. We sat in the courtyard of a traditional Diyarbakir house where we sipped tea and listened to the half-spoken, half-sung verses of the dengbêj. We listened to three old men and were gripped by the unique singing style. To hear the living tradition of oral poetry, alive and being encouraged after years of persecution was a most moving experience. Dengbêj House is hidden down back alley ways - so you will probably need local assistance to find it. The official address is Ziya Gokalp Mahallesi KiliÇÇi Street Next to Behrampasa Mosque Opening Hours 09:00 - 18:00 Closed Monday See more..

    - Military Bridge of History Zerzevan Castle

    Zerzevan Kalesi image
Zerzevan castle from the moment you step through your relationship with the time you are breaking. Why, because the journey to a perfect date with history begins. You experience the historical fact of the Zerzevan Castle in every step taken. Zerzevan Castle is opening the door to the archaeological world. The most important point of the area is the temple of Mithra. The most mysterious of the mystery religions of the Roman empire . It is an excellent experience to see a temple that is so important. God Mithra is God of "deal and friendship" and I felt this feeling from the excavation team. You can observe the meticulous work of the excavation team very closely. A very successful team. I wish the continuation of your success. because this land contains many history. they are waiting to come out. See more..

  18. 4.5 Tigris River (Tigri) (33 reviews)
    - A city on the river Tigris'
    Bodies of Water
    Tigris River (Tigri) image
The city's mayor as been trying to renovate and maintain the historic city wall encircling the city despit the lack of funds fom the central government, whichhas also blocked charitable help from Germany and others. However, the city walls remain intact and thy encircle the old city. You can go up the steps of the walls and enjoy the breath taking views of the River Tigris and the valleys below. Spring is the best time to visit Diyarbakir, winter is cold and summer is hot..spring is perfect. The same Mayor is also investing money into the renovation of the Armenian and other churches, and monasteries, temples ,and museums. There are regular plays at the culture house. I suggest you drive towards the city of Mardin if you have time..it is equally incredibly ancient and mystical built upon a mountain side. See more..

    - tigris river fertile lands
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Hevsel Bahceleri image
On the banks of the Tigris River, Hevsel Gardens, which is located between Diyarbakır Castle and the river valley, is located in a region that has traces of more than 30 civilizations and cultures. Moreover, having existed as a garden for thousands of years, it has a unique place as cultural and historical outside of agricultural value. Fruits and vegetables are also grown in the gardens known as Diyarbakir's granary since ancient times. The Hevsel Gardens, which integrate with the large residential area of the Dicle University on the other side of the river, have yet another feature that draws me here. More than 180 bird species were identified in the Hevsel Gardens on the migration path of the birds. It is estimated that this number will increase with new observations See more..

Diyarbakir does not appear to be a typical foreign tourist destination. However it has many hidden gems. It’s well worth visiting the old city within ramparts and ancient gates. There are beautifully restored Hans, mosques, and interesting alleyways to explore. The “ new city” of Diyarbakir is very modern, with shopping malls, nice parks, cafes and restaurants. The Kurdish cuisine is absolutely delicious! Do not miss the opportunity to climb up to the ancient ramparts of the city and survey the scene. An unforgettable view of the Tigris. See more..
