   I had three almhouses on my list ,I discovered the Holy Spirit hospice on Polsterstraat ,not very far from the centre ,In fact I was looking for Paperstraat ,but I lost my way . The hospice was founded in the 13 th century by the Orde van de Helige Geest ,order of the Holy Spirit,their symbol is the double St Andrew's cross ,it can be seen in several places.The hospice took care of sick old people ,poor and elderly .There is an old church there ,but it was closed .The big complex is built around three courtyards where I met old people sitting in front of their door ,enjoying the sun ,they were very kind and I asked permission to take photos.Visit this unique guest house ,it is another mirror of the historic past ...    We visited the museum of Henk Helmantel and we had the privilege to meet him in person. A very nice professional painter who took time to talk to us. His work is like beautiful old still live paintings. Very amazing. Over the years Henk has had exhibits in Taiwan, the USA, Germany, CZech Republic, Malaisya, England, France and Indonesia besides Holland of course. We walked in from the bus stop in Winsum; it's a nice walk from the train station as well through pretty countryside.     De rondleiding/workshop is een absolute aanrader!
    
    Wij hadden hem cadeau gekregen en het was ontzettend leuk en informatief. Eerst vertelt Dorothy zelf alles over de koffie uit de omgeving waar ze vandaan komt, het proces van de verkoop en hoe je de bonen vervolgens brand. Door de combinatie van een goeie dosis humor en veel persoonlijke anekdotes is dit een mooi verhaal om aan te horen. Vervolgens ga je verschillende koffies proeven voor een persoonlijke smaaktest (medium roast, dark roast etc.). De workshop eindigt met het branden van je eigen koffie, in de smaak die jullie het lekkerst vonden, om hem daarna te malen en proeven of het is gelukt. Het leukste hiervan is dat Dorothy je lekker laat 'zwemmen' om zelf te oordelen wanneer het goed is. Goed opletten bij het verhaal over het brandproces dus.

    Op een mooie dag is dit een geweldige activiteit! We hebben een kano met 4 personen genomen en deden de tocht van 15km (rondje!). Er zijn ook kortere routes mogelijk. Wij deden hier ongeveer 5u over. Tijdens die tocht moet je 5x de boot voorbij een stuw dragen of in ons geval rijden op wieltjes. Dat is wel stevig! Gelukkig waren wij met 2 volwassenen en 2 tiener boys, dus na de 2de keer waren we er al aardig behendig in! Met 2 personen lukte dit goed. En ondertussen peddelen en genieten van de prachtige natuur, mooi landschap en eenden, ooievaars, waterjuffers, vlinders, meerkoeten, oeverzwaluwen en nog veel meer! Het onthaal op de boerderij is enorm vriendelijk! Ze leggen je alles goed uit, je mag gebruik maken van de toiletten, je krijgt een waterdicht tonnetje mee!     13th Century church with detached tower standing solidly on an elevation in flat surroundings. The church is of a simple Roman style design. It is basically one hall. The tower is nearby and linked to a small house, where the sexton used to live and at some point served as a school. The elevation or 'wierd' is man made and used to protect the locals against floods. Just imagine for more than 700 years these buildings on the wierd have been there, testament of a proud past during which the people of Groningen struggled to survive the high waters of a menacing sea. Zie je kinderen genieten van 13.000 kilo kleurige blokjes. Bouw iets bewonderingswaardig en verdien een plek op de museumwand. Ga op speurtocht.     We werden hartelijk door Zárko en zijn vrouw ontvangen. Vooraf een drankje en hapjes.. hoofdgerecht met o.a een goed gevulde Goulash soep. Eten was er ruim voldoende proeferij in de Alambik Distileerderij was top! Van alles mogen proeven. Gastheer neemt ruim de tijd om het hele proces uit te leggen.
