   In 1884 the civil authorities started the planning of Dennenoord as an institution for insane people. By the end of the 19th century the area was fully developed into a village in a village. The insane and their caretaker guards were behind a fence, grew their own food, had their own laundry facility, watersupply and church. By the 1950s the insane were declared patients in need of mental therapy and care. Dennenoord opened up and the fences were torn down. Nowadays psychiatric patients still receive care. A new organization Lentis manages the place. Dennenoord is open to the general public. There are two theme routes one can follow (poetry and trees). A guided tour is an option as well. Monuments on the terrain include the main building (hoofdgebouw) from 1895; watertower; church and director's house. All buildings are in a spacious park-like area. See more..

   We hadden iets te vieren en mijn dochter koos bowlen. Het was er niet druk en we werden vriendelijk ontvangen. Na het bowlen zaten we in de voorzaal voor een eenvoudige patatmaaltijd. Daar was niets mis mee. See more..

   This hunebed D51 is related to the hunebed D50 as it's been seen from the information board at the location. If the D50 is almost a perfect one, this grave ( D51 ) is almost ruined. There are still fourtien bearing stones with only three capstones that are also damaged. See more..
