    Back To Basics Adventures image
After seeing the ratings of this excellent dive center we decided to enjoy our days of diving with them and it was a total success. An excellent team formed by Jenny, Ruper, Amelie and Nito who are always attentive to everything you may need and willing to help. Great briefings before each dive where the most important thing is the safety of the diver and where they explain perfectly the dive to be done, We rented the diving equipment, which worked perfectly The truth is that it was a magnificent experience and we hope to return soon to dive with them. - Bucket list experience
Friday: 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM Dolphin & Whale Watching
    Dolphin Encountours Research Center image
A bucket list experience. Nobody should leave Mozambique without visiting Angie at Dolphin encounters . She had her first encounter with the dolphins in December 1994. She then went on to start Dolphin encounters in 1996. There are about 250 bottle nose dolphins in the reserve. We got to meet Elvis who is approximately 16 years old. Skipper Mitchel Niemeyer does a fantastic job. The sea tours last approximately 2 hours. We were also spoilt in that we got to see the whales up close. No touching of the dolphins is allowed but they come up close as they are naturally inquisitive. Angie provides an educational before setting out to sea, it’s really informative. Highly recommend this experience Photos taken by Dolphin Encounters as we of course can’t take our phones in the water See more..

I joined smiley, happy Mike, Sandy, Issa and team for 4 dives and enjoyed all. All good rental equipment included. Doodles and Pinnacles seem standard faire and were good ones with ample offerings of shark, octopus, rays, Potato bass and other. Adding to experience as a first time was the exciting run against the surf in the RIB to depart the immediate shoreline. Makes for great video! See more..

The dolphin swim with Courtney Ward from Halo Gaia is a must-do! Her experience of the area and her knowledge of the resident pod of dolphins is unparalleled. Once in the water with the dolphins, one enters an altered state of consciousness - a truly spiritual experience. Words cannot fully describe the interaction with these intelligent creatures. - Always a pleasure!
    Islands
    Inhaca Island image
This was not our first time, and definitely not our last. Inhaca Island is just paradise. Our first time we went here was on our honeymoon. We stayed at Machangulo Beach Lodge and we took a day trip snorkeling around the island. It was incredible! The water was so clean and clear that we could see meters down. We also booked a tour to explore the island - Jumped on a 4x4 and drove to the lighthouse, just a few stairs up and we were on top of the world! The second time we booked a snorkeling trip with Chill-hie Charters. They're located in Macaneta Island. It was great fun! We would definitely recommend visiting this island whether you're on honeymoon, just there to relax or on vacation with kids! They will love it. See more..
  12. 4.5 Paroquia Santo Antonio (152 reviews)
    - Stunning architecture in raw concrete.
    Spent 1-2 hours Religious Sites
    Paroquia Santo Antonio image
We stopped here on our tour of Maputo. While the street view is stunning, it was the interior that really got our attention. An English-speaking docent took us for a tour, accessed via the residence hallway. He explained a Portuguese architect had designed a central altar but the accoustics from there become an echo, so it was moved to the front. The morning sun provided quite a lightshow from the dome's stained glass. See more..

At beautiful Maputo's Sommerchild quarter, you will find "Fundação Fernando Leite Couto". A foundation engaged in promoting literature and arts as important and valued tools in the construction of a better country. It was founded by acclaimed Mozambican writer Mia Couto and his two brothers, Fernando Amado and Armando. The foundation bears the name of their father, Fernando Leite Couto. It organizes music shows, poetry sessions and art exhibitions. There is always something interesting going on in its premises. Check its agenda and organize your visit. 17. 4.5 CCBM - Centro Cultural Brasil-Moçambique (3 reviews)
    - A symbol of friendship at Maputo's heart!
    Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Art Galleries
CCBM - Centro Cultural Brasil-Moçambique image
At busy "Avenida 25 de Setembro", at the heart of Maputo's Baixa, you will notice the Brazilian flag at the top of a yellow building! This is "CCBM - Centro Cultural Brasil-Moçambique", inaugurated in 1989 and an active cultural center. It has an auditorium ("Auditório Vinícius de Moraes"), a library ("Biblioteca João Guimarães Rosa"), two art galleries ("Cândido Portinari" and "Djanira"), Portuguese classes for foreigners and a small café. In its efforts to strengthen the cultural ties between both countries, "CCBM" promotes film sessions, theater plays and art exhibitions. From its terrace, on the second floor, a nice view of Maputo's Baixa. Check its agenda and organize your visit. Enjoy! See more..
  18. 4.0 Maputo Central Train Station (618 reviews)
    - Past Glory in Maputo
    Architectural Buildings
    Maputo Central Train Station image
Designed in French Beaux-Arts style and completed in 1916, Maputo's central railway station is testament to a time when the railways were at their highpoint early 1900s. Train stations in those days almost had the same prestigious status as a cathedral. Those times are clearly over. The final blow for the Mozambican railways came after independence in 1975, when an exodus of qualified personnel took place and the railway system almost collapsed. Though the station is still operational (three lines for transport of passengers remain) it is not longer a mass transportation hub. People in Mozambique prefer to take buses. The main bus station Junta is way out of town. A pity the responsible authorities were not even capable to make optimal use of the station's central location. See more..
  19. 4.0 FEIMA - Feira de Artesanato, Flores e Gastronomica (340 reviews)
    - Abundance of colorful crafts and goods
Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Flea & Street Markets
FEIMA - Feira de Artesanato, Flores e Gastronomica image
Visited on a weekday when there were very few customers. The vendors seemed desperate to sell, as due to covid sales to tourists have almost come to a standstill. The park is hardly visible, as the whole place is covered with numerous stalls and outlets. Very many colorful items such as handbags, paintings, cloth and garments are on offer. Plants and flowers are another significant section of the feira. Crafts are plentiful as well. There are two restaurants. Perhaps good to visit towards the end of your Mozambican adventure to buy some original souvenirs. See more..
  20. 4.0 Fortaleza of Maputo (194 reviews)

    Friday: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM History Museums
    Fortaleza of Maputo image
This is a interesting place to visit. It’s very nice for families, our kids 10-14 enjoyed it. You pay 100 MT per person to enter. There is a lot of history, statues, and interesting information. It would be good for anyone local, or visiting family, or friends. Some signs are only in Portuguese, but many were translated in English as well. See more..

    Portuguese Island image
We went on the Msc Orchestra from Durban to Pomene from 4-8 April 2022. Everything was spectacular and amazing, except for the food that was very mediocre. Not oncewas there a serving of red meat in any shape, form or size. We had fish daily and chicken every second day. The vegetables were very weak and bland. Pizzas were freshly baked but had no mozarella cheese, only a light sprinkling of finely grated hard cheese and no meats on them. Soup was tasteless. No salad dressing available See more..
  22. 4.0 Mercado Central de Maputo (169 reviews)
    - Old bazar in baixa Maputo
    Flea & Street Markets
    Mercado Central de Maputo image
1901 is proudly written above the main gate at the entrance of the Mercado Municipal. It shows the Portugese rulers at the time were serious about turning Lourenco Marques into an urban center of significance. The architecture is robust. Solid materials were used for the construction. Nowadays it is one of the many local bazars in Maputo. Fresh fruit and vegetables are the main produce on offer, but fish, herbs and spices, household goods, wigs and other items are also for sale. Very good to get an idea of local life. See more..
  23. 4.0 Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception (165 reviews)
    - Simple Catholic cathedral among colonial buildings
    Churches & Cathedrals
Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception image
This Catholic cathedral stands out for its simple, linear shapes and white color in an area where there are colonial buildings. The interior is also simple but pleasant and interesting to visit even if only for a few minutes for those who enter it as a tourist. I definitely think it should be included in the itinerary of the visit to the city. See more..

  25. 4.0 Tunduru Botanical Gardens (73 reviews)
    - Best spot in Maputo central
    Spent < 1 hour Gardens
    Tunduru Botanical Gardens image
Since 1885 this botanical garden survived in the old center of Maputo. Massive tall tropical trees provide shade. There is a small pond and the trails through divers vegetation are well maintained. Birds and bats have chosen the garden to be their home. It is a very tranquil place, excellent for a walk in the morning. Hardly suitable for running as the garden is rather small. See more..

James, one of the waiters there is always so helpful, full of smiles and makes your whole dining experience wonderful! The best Burgers and Portuguese chicken! I would definitely recommend a visit to The Beach Bar! See more..

  30. 4.0 Xefina Pequena (27 reviews)
    - Definitely the best thing to do in Maputo.
    Islands
    Xefina Pequena image
I had a few days to spend in Maputo and thought I had run out of things to do after two days but then I was told about Xefina. It was sooo much better than going to Inhaca that didn't even have a beach. We got to have a bbq seafood lunch overlooking Maputo before going trekking through the ruins of the old colonial fort that later housed political prisoners. Island, history, great food, all in one.
