Calm Beautiful space

Very informative , well run spotless museum .Our tour guide was professional and friendly the items and info on display were fascinating .Would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Maputo. The Train station's architecture is breath taking . Lovely clean restrooms .

    As if the railways in Mozambique are something of the past.
    This interesting museum is at the far end of the main platforms inside Maputo's historic railway station. The collection tells the story of the Mozambican railways, an impressive enterprise initiated by the Portugese rulers of the colony. After liberation in 1975 most technical staff left the country leaving the railway infrastructure behind in the hands of the new elite. Gradually the system declined with nowadays only three lines serving passengers still intact. Other parts were privatized and are used by big (mining) companies made suitable for freight trains only. Nice also for children as you are allowed to climb inside the carriages of the trains exhibited. The many photos of visiting heads of state are less appealing. Entrance fee 50 Meticais (seniors free of charge). Friendly staff.

    Inside the Maputo Railway Station
    The CFM Museum has existed in Maputo City since 2015, and is installed at the Central Railway Station in Maputo. This Museum was created to portray and diffuse the history of the Ports and Railways of Mozambique. Its main objectives are the study, documentation, conservation and dissemination of the collection in its possession, as well as the valorization of the Maputo Railway Station - building that houses the Museum - and the preservation of its memory. In addition to the very distinctive design of its collection, the CFM Museum has unique pieces of Mozambique's railway history.
